But the overall design, page layouts and menus have had some big improvements.

This launch marks an exciting milestone, as it applies our vibrant University of York brand across our most used channel – our website. Maintaining a consistent brand is crucial for any university, as it helps build recognition and trust. Our updated brand identity, which guides how we talk about York and how we present ourselves, has been rolling out across our publications and other channels over the past couple of years, with its distinctive colours, typefaces and layouts. Now, our website proudly aligns with this bold, modern look, ensuring a common experience wherever you encounter the University of York.

Enhancing the site experience

We’ve made a range of improvements to how our content looks and feels, significantly enhancing the site experience for all visitors. This includes a more engaging visual experience and clearer, more consistent ways of presenting information. Behind the scenes, we’ve also implemented accessibility and performance enhancements to ensure the site is fast, responsive, and easily navigable for everyone.

Perhaps one of the most impactful changes is our new site-wide menu with drop-down options to introduce key sections of the site and quickly get you to the information you need.

This global navigation will appear consistently on every page, making it much easier to find your way around the site, no matter where you start or what page you’ve browsed to. We’re looking forward to rolling out the design to additional systems beyond the main website, and to continuing to enhance the site with new templates and other ways of interacting with York on the web.

We’ll have a feedback option across the top of all pages from launch until Friday 25 July and we’d love to know what you think.

Additional information and resources

For additional information about the website redesign, please see:

Website redesign – what do you need to do? – a post for staff, particularly those involved in creating or maintaining the website

Coming soon: A new look for the University of York website – blog post from April introducing the redesign in more detail

Website redesign webinar from 19 June (staff only) – recording and slides from our staff briefing to introduce the redesign

For more about the University brand, marketing and communications:

brand.york.ac.uk (staff only) – the University’s brand platform, including an extensive photo and video library, plus self-service professionally designed templates for posters, social media and more

Communications, marketing and brand web pages – everything staff need to connect with external and internal audiences, including brand guidelines, website support, media training and more

On 14 July 2025, the main University of York website was updated to a new design.
