{"id":1013,"date":"2022-02-09T16:30:00","date_gmt":"2022-02-09T16:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/research-student-community\/?p=1013"},"modified":"2022-02-11T15:02:25","modified_gmt":"2022-02-11T15:02:25","slug":"teaching-opportunities-in-maths-skills-centre-statistics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/research-student-community\/2022\/02\/09\/teaching-opportunities-in-maths-skills-centre-statistics\/","title":{"rendered":"Teaching opportunities in Maths Skills Centre &#8211; Statistics"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Maths Skills Centre is recruiting PhD researchers working across all disciplines to teach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You must have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>a good first degree in a subject with a large mathematical or statistical content<\/li><li>a good grounding in first-year undergraduate Mathematics and\/or Probability and Statistical Theory<\/li><li>a good level of digital literacy &#8211; with knowledge of Statistical software- e.g. SPSS or R<\/li><li>the ability to encourage and develop understanding through alternative approaches to problem solving<\/li><li>the ability to direct students how to use the Centre&#8217;s resources.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Tutors are not expected to be experts in all aspects of Maths or Statistics. Students often find it more helpful to talk through their initial approach to a problem or to be guided towards suitable resources on the initial steps towards a solution, rather than to be offered a complete worked solution.
