Application deadline: 3 October 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Are you a new postgraduate researcher, and interested in some peer support? Our PGR Buddy Scheme connects you to an experienced postgraduate researcher, who will help you settle into the York research experience, provide a friendly welcome and support you in getting to know the University and the city of York. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Applications to ask for a buddy close Monday 3 October, at 5pm BST.<\/strong> For any applications received after this time, we will endeavour to match you with another PGR later in the Autumn term, but cannot guarantee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Sign up for a buddy.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Having a buddy at the absolutely early stages of a PhD was amazing, especially for international students who are unfamiliar with the entire terrain\u2026. It has been invaluable to have a person I can reach out to and connect with remotely and digitally and face to face.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n For current and continuing postgraduate researchers, our Mentor scheme connects you to a postdoctoral researcher who has been trained to work with you to develop your professional and career development. <\/p>\n\n\n\n PGR Mentors can provide insight from their own experience and assist you in setting goals that support your public engagement, knowledge exchange, communicating your research and many aspects of the research process. Please note however that mentors are NOT surrogate supervisors and it isn\u2019t their role to read your work or provide feedback on your thesis. For more information and feedback from PhD students who have had a mentor read the \u2018What\u2019s in it for me\u2019 <\/a>section on the website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Being part of the mentoring scheme contributes to the 10 days of professional development that all researchers are encouraged to undertake as part of the University’s commitment to the Researcher Development Concordat<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sign up for a mentor<\/a>. You have until the end of November to apply and will be matched with a mentor in December to commence in January 2023.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n Having someone other than a PhD supervisor as a source of support is very useful.\u201d \u201cI would highly recommend this programme for anyone looking for a mentor.
