{"id":208,"date":"2020-01-29T13:24:30","date_gmt":"2020-01-29T13:24:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/research-student-community\/?p=208"},"modified":"2020-01-29T13:24:31","modified_gmt":"2020-01-29T13:24:31","slug":"job-opportunity-research-assistant-research-associate-in-york-law-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/research-student-community\/2020\/01\/29\/job-opportunity-research-assistant-research-associate-in-york-law-school\/","title":{"rendered":"JOB OPPORTUNITY: Research Assistant\/Research Associate in York Law School"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">York Law School (YLS) is seeking a Research Assistant \/ Research Associate with appropriate statistics expertise to work alongside the YLS Admissions Tutor and Widening Participation Tutor on a research project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project is to analyse the relationship between performance at undergraduate law admissions interviews and social disadvantage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A background in education research and \/ or knowledge of university admissions processes is desirable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Brief description of the main duties:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Conduct a statistical analysis of a large dataset of\ninterview scores, POLAR classification and school type.<\/li><li>Prepare a report of findings for the School\u2019s Admissions\nCommittee.<\/li><li>Work alongside the Admissions Tutor and Widening\nParticipation Tutor to conduct an audit of YLS undergraduate interview\narrangements and systems.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Qualifications, skills, experience\nrequired:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A\nPhD in a social sciences subject (or working towards completion).<\/li><li>Appropriate\nquantitative research methods training and expertise.<\/li><li>Proficient in the use of appropriate computer software\nto conduct statistical analysis (such as Excel, SPSS or a suitable alternative).<\/li><li>Experience of carrying out independent and collaborative\nresearch.<\/li><li>An appropriate level of spoken and\nwritten English.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This position\nis available for start at the end of March 2020 (start date can be negotiated).\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pay:\u00a0 <\/strong>\u00a316.71 per hour. Fixed term position for four weeks (or part-time equivalent).
