See below for details on how to join the session.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How to Survive Public Engagement and Research Communication<\/strong><br><strong>&#8211; 1 &#8211; 3pm<br>&#8211; Mon 30 March<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Are you looking to improve your public speaking and presentation skills?&nbsp;<\/li><li>Do you wish you could talk more confidently about your research to bigger audiences?<\/li><li>And impress them completely with what you have to say?&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then join us for an exciting discussion and Q&amp;A with an excellent panel of public engagement winners who&#8217;ve done just that!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speakers will include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/research\/events\/three-minute-thesis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"3 Minute Thesis (opens in a new tab)\"><strong>3 Minute Thesis<\/strong><\/a> winners (both at York and nationally)<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/research\/graduate-school\/public-engagement\/phd-spotlight-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"PhD Spotlight (opens in a new tab)\"><strong>PhD Spotlight<\/strong><\/a> competition winners<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/research\/in-focus\/falling-walls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Falling Walls (opens in a new tab)\">Falling Walls<\/a><\/strong> finalists <\/li><li>TEDx speaker<\/li><li>Researchers who have published to large readerships through mainstream channels <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They&#8217;ll talk about their experiences, share some secrets to their success in research communication and insider tips for how to wow audiences and create award-winning presentations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the end of the session, participants will have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Learned about some personal experiences of preparing for and winning public engagement competitions<\/li><li>Gained some understanding of the processes involved in attaining success in public engagement<\/li><li>Acquired strategies and tips for effective public speaking or doing oral presentations<\/li><li>Received suggestions for practices\/methods they can adopt to improve their own public engagement skills<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This workshop will be especially helpful to anyone thinking about applying for competitions such as the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Three Minute Thesis (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/research\/events\/three-minute-thesis\/\" target=\"_blank\">Three Minute Thesis<\/a> (deadline 1 April 2020!), <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Falling Walls  (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/research\/in-focus\/falling-walls\/\" target=\"_blank\">Falling Walls <\/a>or PhD Spotlight; or anyone looking to add that extra dazzle to their public speaking and presentation skills!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>To join the session<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The panel discussion will be held on Zoom.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please find details for setting-up and logging into Zoom via your University account\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/it-services\/services\/zoom\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.
