{"id":469,"date":"2020-08-14T09:46:16","date_gmt":"2020-08-14T08:46:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/research-student-community\/?p=469"},"modified":"2020-09-07T13:09:46","modified_gmt":"2020-09-07T12:09:46","slug":"book-now-introduction-to-teaching-and-learning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/research-student-community\/2020\/08\/14\/book-now-introduction-to-teaching-and-learning\/","title":{"rendered":"BOOK NOW: Introduction to teaching and learning"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before you can teach as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA), you will need to complete the one-day&nbsp;<strong>Introduction to Teaching and Learning<\/strong>&nbsp;course. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The course allows you to acquire the knowledge and skills to establish yourself as a confident, enthusiastic and effective teacher.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are four different workshops and you should choose the one most relevant to your teaching responsibilities (your department can guide you):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Facilitating seminars and discussion-based learning<\/li><li>Facilitating practical and laboratory demonstrations<\/li><li>Facilitating problem-solving and problem-based learning<\/li><li>Supervising dissertations and projects<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each workshop consists of a\u00a0<strong>self-study component<\/strong>\u00a0(4.5 hours) and a\u00a0<strong>webinar\u00a0<\/strong>(1.5 hours).
