{"id":639,"date":"2021-01-22T12:19:42","date_gmt":"2021-01-22T12:19:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/research-student-community\/?p=639"},"modified":"2021-01-22T12:19:44","modified_gmt":"2021-01-22T12:19:44","slug":"teach-with-the-maths-skills-centre-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/research-student-community\/2021\/01\/22\/teach-with-the-maths-skills-centre-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Teach with the Maths Skills Centre"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/students\/studying\/skills\/maths-skills-centre\/\">Maths Skills Centre<\/a>\u00a0is\u00a0recruiting Graduate Teaching Assistants to run online maths and statistics appointments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They welcome applications from PhD research students working across all disciplines who have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A good first degree in a subject with a large mathematical or statistical content<\/li><li>A good grounding in first-year undergraduate Mathematics and\/or Probability and Statistical Theory<\/li><li>The ability to encourage and develop understanding through alternative approaches to problem solving<\/li><li>The ability to direct students how to use the Centre&#8217;s resources<\/li><li>A good level of digital literacy &#8211; for statistics role, knowledge of Statistical software- e.g. SPSS or R<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tutors are not expected to be experts in all aspects of Maths or Statistics<\/strong>.
