Hi, my name\u2019s Maisie, and I\u2019m a second year Psychology in Education<\/a> student in Vanbrugh College<\/a>. As someone who has both been to and worked the visit days for offer holders I feel I have some good advice on how to get the most out of the day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ask Questions! <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

me with some my student ambassador friends, we are very approachable<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

You might not want to be \u2018that\u2019 person, however it is SO important to ask any questions you have! Perhaps keep a list of your questions, and the answers, so you can find out and remember exactly what you want to know. Essentially, you will get the most honest answers<\/strong> from students themselves, as we were in your shoes not long ago! All student ambassadors who are helping with the visit days for offer holders are friendly and more than happy to answer any questions you have, from accommodation<\/a> to nightlife! If you feel like you can\u2019t ask in person, you can chat to current students<\/a> in a safe, secure environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit the city! <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

we are so lucky to have this historic minster in our city<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

At any visit day for offer holders you go to, it’s so important to visit the city. Think, can you see yourself living there for three or more years? What’s in the city? How far is it from campus? Think about what you would like in a city so that you can compare it to other universities.<\/strong> It\u2019s also important to think about how you are going to get into town! From campus West it’s just 10-15 minutes<\/strong> on the bus<\/a> (from \u00a31 each way<\/a>!), or a 25-minute walk to the city walls, making it easy to get home on a night out or when you have heavy shopping bags!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city of York is beautiful and old, with an interesting history. It also has a bustling nightlife, with plenty of bars, pubs and clubs. To me, it has the best of both worlds. Safety in my university city was also very important to me when applying, so York being voted one of the safest places to live in the UK massively appealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attend a taster lecture!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Attending a taster session for your course is a great way to meet <\/strong>some of the people you could be studying with, <\/strong>meet the staff<\/strong> in your department and also see if you like the teaching style!<\/strong> They are something I\u2019d definitely recommend as you’ll find out about course content and much more. As an extra incentive, they even had coffee and cake at the Education talk last year, so it\u2019s not one to miss!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit some accommodation! <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

York is a collegiate university<\/a> and therefore your accommodation is based on your college. There is accommodation to suit all different needs and price ranges<\/strong> from catered to en-suite to self-catered<\/a>, there really is something for everyone. You can do virtual 360-degree tours online<\/a>, but also there will be some show flats of accommodation that you can view on the visit day for offer holders. There\u2019ll even be time to try some food in one of the many canteens<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
