At York, visit days for offer holders<\/a> are typically held between January and April each year, though this can vary depending on your department (don\u2019t worry, they\u2019ll contact you, so you’ll know what to do!). During a visit day, you\u2019ll have the opportunity to chat with staff and students from your department and learn more about your course. As a Student Ambassador<\/a>, I\u2019ve worked on lots of visit days, so I\u2019ve collated four top tips to help you make the most of the day!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Top Tip 1: speak to current students on your course\/in your department<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Student Ambassadors love speaking to prospective students, and we\u2019re more than happy to answer any questions you may have! <\/span>Speaking to us is a great way to find out what life is like as a student doing your course at York. You can ask us pretty much anything, from the best place to go for a coffee, to the best study spots on campus. You can also ask ambassadors about what elements of the course they\u2019ve enjoyed and how the course is helping them in their future career<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Top Tip 2: ask staff any questions about admissions, entry requirements, etc.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Staff in your department will know specifics about your course admissions. If they don\u2019t know an answer, they\u2019ll be able to direct you to someone who does! You can also ask staff what they enjoy most about the course! If your department offers several courses, you can ask about the differences between them as well. For example, in my department (Social Policy and Social Work) we have a Social Policy BA course as well as Social Policy, Crime and Criminal Justice BA.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Top Tip 3: explore the campus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you haven\u2019t had a chance to visit the University\u2019s campus, a visit day for offer holders is a great opportunity for you to explore both campuses – especially if it\u2019s a nice day! If you have visited already, take this as a chance to find anything you didn\u2019t get time to before. For example, if you’ve only gone to either Campus West or East, you could use the day to explore the other. If you fancy having a look round independently, the University has an app called <\/span>Visit UoY <\/span><\/a>which offers various self-guided tours, including tours for undergraduates, a tour of accommodation, and a tour of the city of York. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Typically, your department talks and Q&A sessions will take place in your department\u2019s building – for example, Social Policy and Social Work visit days have previously been held in the new Church Lane Building. This is a great opportunity to get a feel for where you\u2019ll be studying if you come to the University of York. This will help you decide whether York is somewhere you can see yourself studying and attending lectures, seminars, or other teaching activities on your course.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Top Tip 4: grab a biscuit (or two!)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Usually, departments will provide free tea, coffee, and cake for attendees and their guests. So grab a much-needed snack if you\u2019ve travelled far, or warm up with a hot drink depending on the Great British weather!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
