I\u2019m Pak-Yin, and I study the Interactive Media BSc<\/a> at the University of York. I was a part of the Interactive Media showcase 2022<\/a> committee, and will be sharing more about the event and my experiences!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the IM showcase?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Interactive Media showcase<\/a> is a public event that is held every year, and displays the works of Interactive Media BSc<\/a> students. It gives the opportunity for student work to be recognised by other students, industry and academic professionals. It is also a great way to build professional connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event showcased projects such as virtual reality games, humanities projects, web designs, mobile applications, and many more. The event is led by the students of York\u2019s interdisciplinary Interactive Media BSc. It is held over three days in the Black Box, located within the School of Arts and Creative Technologies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022, the Opening Gala was held on 17 June from 7pm \u2013 9pm. The showcase started with an opening party where the projects were judged, and an award ceremony was held. The next two days featured the project exhibition, as well as several talks and workshops that covered different disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IM showcase committee<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The IM showcase committee consists of four teams and two directors. Each team has a lead and a deputy lead. The design team are responsible for establishing the theme of the showcase, designing the logo, posters, flyers and creating web assets for the tech team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the tech team is responsible for creating and designing the website and planning the tech equipment needed for the showcase. The events team are responsible for catering, budgeting and overall preparation. Finally, the marketing team are responsible for content creation and advertising the events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My experience being in the committee<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As a Team Lead, I attended weekly meetings with other senior figures to feed back on designs and discuss progress. Being on the committee allowed me to gain experience in managing a team and strengthen my organisation and management skills. I also learned how to efficiently guide a team, support others and ensure tasks were completed to a high standard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not only was I managing the team, but I was also able to practise my design skills by designing assets such as posters and certificates. Collaborating with the team and preparing the showcase with them over eight months was a truly rewarding and amazing experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IM showcase 2022<\/a> was attended by more than 150 people, and over 40 projects were submitted. With the success of the IM showcase 2022, I am taking on the role as a lead director for the IM showcase 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
