At the start of this year, I was in my final year of undergrad study and looking for a Masters course that could help me focus on HR. I had been talking with my supervisor about the different options, but I knew that York had become home for me. Knowing how short the Masters course would be, I thought it would be better for myself if I could \u2018hit the ground running\u2019 by knowing where my lectures would be and how the School for Business and Society worked. So, I applied for the Masters in Human Resource Management<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Abi<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

July through to September was a rollercoaster of emotions! I graduated with my friends on my course, which was such an amazing chance to celebrate the last three years. But then I had to say goodbye to those leaving York, which was difficult. Luckily, I had a lovely group of friends that were all moving in together for our fourth year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, I had a new degree to look forward to! My Masters began with a whirlwind of events, induction sessions and lots of opportunities to meet people. Going from a big course with lots of people, to my Masters course where we could all fit into a seminar room. I took every opportunity to get to meet people and the lecturers also.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had been warned about how fast-paced a Masters course can be, and was quickly finding this to be true in my experience. Engaging in as much as I could meant that I felt prepared for the start of the modules and the first term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting involved<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As I already knew the School quite well, I felt comfortable putting myself forward to be a departmental ambassador. For me, this gives me the chance to get to know more people (both staff and students), which helps me to feel better connected and confident in my studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has also been really helpful for me as paid work, which can help me as I\u2019m funding my studies. Whether you are new to your department or know it very well, I really recommend you involve yourself in something outside your normal studies. In the School, this could mean going to the Masterclass series, joining the study caf\u00e9 groups, or becoming a School ambassador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Studying life<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When I described my degree as a whirlwind earlier, that is the best way I can describe my experience! Lots of content and opportunities to meet new people. It can feel quite busy, and sometimes a little overwhelming, but I\u2019m so glad I chose York for my course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The School has been amazing with their support and guidance. So many resources are available to me, and doors\/emails are always open if you need to have a conversation about something. I would highly recommend considering York<\/a> if you’re unsure where to study next.<\/p>\n
