Something unique about coming to York<\/a> is not just the University (which is pretty cool) but also the city. York is somewhere that, even though it has more than 2,000 years of history, perfectly combines history with modernity. So, I’ll tell you why York is a perfect city to come to do your undergraduate or postgraduate degree. Here are 10 reasons to love York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A medieval town<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you like medieval towns, York will make you feel like you’re in a fairytale or movie! York has more than 2,000 years of history, from Romans, Vikings, and medieval times to kings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you like Harry Potter? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Well, in York, you’ll find a street called The Shambles<\/a>, one of the most well preserved medieval streets in the world. It was a street where butchers sold meat in medieval days, but nowadays, it’s believed to have been the inspiration behind Diagon Alley. You can find everything from a Harry Potter shop to coffee shops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ghost and witch stories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you’re into ghost and witch stories, York is your place. York is full of old and spooky stories, and is one of the most haunted cities in Europe. You can do a walking ghost tour or take a haunted coach tour to hear the most amazing stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A pub for every day of the year<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you’re a pub fan or want to eat and drink like a Brit, you’ll have a new option every day! York has more pubs than days in a year, over 365!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lots of live music<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Live music fan? York is complete with live music. You can hear live music in the street, enjoy everyday live music in the Golden Fleece<\/a> pub, or go on Saturday to The Habit Cafe Bar<\/a>. There are plenty of options!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A comfortable city<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

York makes you feel at home. The people in York are nice and warm. York is the UK’s second favourite place to live and is very safe. You’ll even feel safe walking at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lots of restaurants!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you’re a foodie or like to try different cuisines, York has lots of international restaurants. From British, Asian, and Italian to Latin food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fancy dancing? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

York offers different places to go and dance at night. From dancing to pop music in Popworld<\/a> to electronic music at Kennedy’s Bar<\/a> or trying Latin dancing at Bora Bora<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beautiful walks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Going for a walk to clear your head and enjoy nature. If you like to walk and explore, York has lots of nice areas. You can walk by the river or explore trails for a relaxing day out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally… cats!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Are you a cat lover? York cat statues around the town are a nice thing to look for. For around two centuries, statues of cats have been placed on the buildings to frighten away rats and mice and ward off wandering evil spirits. Now, you can do the York Cat Trail<\/a> and look for over 20 cat statues!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
