Kevin – Just missed offer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hello! I\u2019m Kevin, I\u2019m in my second year of studying Computer Science at York. I\u2019m from India, but I spent the first 10 years of my life in the UK. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I aimed very high with my five choices with a conditional offer of A*AB or AAA at my top choice. But my exams didn’t go as well as I\u2019d hoped, missing my conditional offer by one percent. One percent!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Clearing was the only option left for me. I came across an advertisement for a Computer Science course at York. Made a call to the office. And in a few short days I was through! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are going through this process yourself, I know the wait can be agonising. But my advice is to stay hopeful and look around in as many places as you can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neve – Applied after June deadline<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hi! I\u2019m Neve from Surrey, and I\u2019m in my first year of an Integrated Masters in Biochemistry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After applying twice for VetMed and not succeeding, I decided I can always come back to that in the future and I should make a start on a degree that plays to my interests and strengths. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I spent the week before Results Day compiling a top five list of unis and courses. I felt confident in my decisions and was honestly excited about any of them. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

At 8am on Results Day, I sent out emails to the unis on my list. Within a few hours, I had five acceptances. York was my first choice due to the makeup of the course here as well as the beautiful city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are applying through Clearing, I\u2019d advise you to do your prep so you can send emails\/get calls out quickly on Results Day, and stay resilient and focused on your goal \u2013 even if the route there is different to how you planned it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grace – Achieved higher grades<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hello, I am Grace (or Seoyun) from South Korea currently in my second year studying Business of the Creative Industries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I decided to apply through Clearing after my grades were higher than predicted. I found the Business of the Creative Industries course at the University of York which I was really excited about.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

On Results Day, I was back in South Korea, so I needed to check the time difference and the international hotline number. The information was not hard to find at all; it was on the Clearing information page a few days before. Despite feeling a bit stressed, the process went smoother than expected. I was asked for my UCAS number, final grade, and English requirements first, and then they informed me I could apply through Clearing. After that, I was passed on to the department of admissions, who asked me which course was my firm choice and had a short interview related to the course. Later, I received a call confirming that I had been offered a place!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

James – Changed course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hey, I’m James and I\u2019m in my 2nd year at the University of York, where I\u2019m studying PPE. I\u2019m from down south near Dover, but thankfully two high speed trains make the commute significantly easier!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I came to York through Clearing, after deciding I wanted to change course from my initial UCAS applications. After rejecting my original offers, UCAS allowed me to submit one more application.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The experience was quicker and I received my offer within a week of applying. I visited York before accepting my offer, where I looked around the department, spoke to some staff and viewed accommodation. I accepted my offer and applied for accommodation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Applying for accommodation through Clearing can be stressful, but I had no issues at York. There’s a diverse selection of styles within and across colleges \u2013 and you rank your top eight in your application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A piece of advice I\u2019d give to people in my situation is to try and talk to as many students as possible \u2013 particularly those on your course. Although I got a great feel for the city and the department initially – it\u2019s the student’s opinions that matter most!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
