<\/figure>\n\n\n\nThe first thing I love to do before heading to the markets is grab a festive hot chocolate at one of York\u2019s many charming caf\u00e9s (make sure to ask for a student discount). Whether it\u2019s a peppermint cocoa, a gingerbread latte or even a good old cup of tea, there\u2019s something about sipping on a warm drink while strolling through the cobbled streets that makes you feel like you\u2019re in a Christmas movie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The city itself has a classic Hallmark movie energy\u2014twinkling fairy lights, wreaths on the doors, and carolers filling the air with music. It\u2019s the perfect prelude to the main event: the St Nicholas Fair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\nThe York Christmas Markets stretch through the city centre. The wooden chalets are bursting with local goodies\u2014think handmade jewelry, festive decorations, and Yorkshire\u2019s finest foodie treats. I always end up buying at least one quirky ornament for my Christmas tree back home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And the food? Oh, where do I even start? From bratwurst sizzling on grills to gooey
Yorkshire pudding wraps (yes, they exist, and yes, they\u2019re amazing), it\u2019s impossible not to indulge. If you have a sweet tooth, don\u2019t miss the churros dusted in cinnamon sugar or the classic mince pies. Pro tip: try everything. Treats don\u2019t count at Christmas, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My personal favourites: Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes, and for a sweet treat either a crepe or a giant cookie! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Festive fun and photo ops<\/h2>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/12\/IMG_0751.jpeg?resize=540%2C960&ssl=1\")
<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\nOne of my favourite spots is Thor\u2019s Tipi\u2014a Nordic-style tent with a roaring fire, sheepskin blankets and mulled wine. It\u2019s the ultimate place to warm up, chill out, and soak in the festive vibes with friends. Plus, it\u2019s super Instagrammable. Snap a photo under the fairy lights, and you\u2019ve got yourself a festive post for the feed.
If you\u2019re into unique experiences, there\u2019s also the vintage carousel on Parliament Street and plenty of live entertainment. It\u2019s impossible not to get swept up in the cheer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ending the day: the magical Minster<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
No Christmas-themed day in York is complete without a visit to York Minster. Whether you\u2019re admiring its grandeur or stepping inside for a carol service, it\u2019s the perfect way to end a festive day. At night, the Minster is illuminated beautifully, making it the ultimate backdrop for some peaceful holiday reflection\u2014or another photo op!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a day filled with good food, fun vibes, and that warm, festive feeling that makes you forget all about deadlines and assignments. Whether you\u2019re visiting with friends or just exploring solo, it\u2019s an experience that reminds you why York is such a magical place to study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\nThe York Christmas Markets stretch through the city centre. The wooden chalets are bursting with local goodies\u2014think handmade jewelry, festive decorations, and Yorkshire\u2019s finest foodie treats. I always end up buying at least one quirky ornament for my Christmas tree back home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And the food? Oh, where do I even start? From bratwurst sizzling on grills to gooey
Yorkshire pudding wraps (yes, they exist, and yes, they\u2019re amazing), it\u2019s impossible not to indulge. If you have a sweet tooth, don\u2019t miss the churros dusted in cinnamon sugar or the classic mince pies. Pro tip: try everything. Treats don\u2019t count at Christmas, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My personal favourites: Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes, and for a sweet treat either a crepe or a giant cookie! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Festive fun and photo ops<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\nOne of my favourite spots is Thor\u2019s Tipi\u2014a Nordic-style tent with a roaring fire, sheepskin blankets and mulled wine. It\u2019s the ultimate place to warm up, chill out, and soak in the festive vibes with friends. Plus, it\u2019s super Instagrammable. Snap a photo under the fairy lights, and you\u2019ve got yourself a festive post for the feed.
If you\u2019re into unique experiences, there\u2019s also the vintage carousel on Parliament Street and plenty of live entertainment. It\u2019s impossible not to get swept up in the cheer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ending the day: the magical Minster<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
No Christmas-themed day in York is complete without a visit to York Minster. Whether you\u2019re admiring its grandeur or stepping inside for a carol service, it\u2019s the perfect way to end a festive day. At night, the Minster is illuminated beautifully, making it the ultimate backdrop for some peaceful holiday reflection\u2014or another photo op!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why the Markets are a must-do<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\nAs an international student, exploring the York Christmas Markets has become one of my favourite traditions. It\u2019s a day filled with good food, fun vibes, and that warm, festive feeling that makes you forget all about deadlines and assignments. Whether you\u2019re visiting with friends or just exploring solo, it\u2019s an experience that reminds you why York is such a magical place to study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So grab your coat, your comfiest shoes, and your Christmas spirit, and head down to the markets this season. Merry Christmas! \ud83c\udf84 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\nOne of my favourite spots is Thor\u2019s Tipi\u2014a Nordic-style tent with a roaring fire, sheepskin blankets and mulled wine. It\u2019s the ultimate place to warm up, chill out, and soak in the festive vibes with friends. Plus, it\u2019s super Instagrammable. Snap a photo under the fairy lights, and you\u2019ve got yourself a festive post for the feed.
If you\u2019re into unique experiences, there\u2019s also the vintage carousel on Parliament Street and plenty of live entertainment. It\u2019s impossible not to get swept up in the cheer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ending the day: the magical Minster<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
No Christmas-themed day in York is complete without a visit to York Minster. Whether you\u2019re admiring its grandeur or stepping inside for a carol service, it\u2019s the perfect way to end a festive day. At night, the Minster is illuminated beautifully, making it the ultimate backdrop for some peaceful holiday reflection\u2014or another photo op!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why the Markets are a must-do<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\nAs an international student, exploring the York Christmas Markets has become one of my favourite traditions. It\u2019s a day filled with good food, fun vibes, and that warm, festive feeling that makes you forget all about deadlines and assignments. Whether you\u2019re visiting with friends or just exploring solo, it\u2019s an experience that reminds you why York is such a magical place to study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
