Whether that\u2019s in the Seebohm Rowntree building for a lecture with a cup of tea or in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/study\/undergraduate\/subjects\/nursing\/facilities\/\">Clinical simulation unit (CSU)<\/a> learning new skills. Taking a step closer to your end goal while watching your friends try to attempt to do CPR. For now, I\u2019ll be taking you through my experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/02\/image00002-min.jpeg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/02\/image00002-min.jpeg?resize=224%2C300\" alt=\"clinical simulation unit\" class=\"wp-image-15044\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/02\/image00002-min.jpeg?resize=224%2C300&amp;ssl=1 224w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/02\/image00002-min.jpeg?w=718&amp;ssl=1 718w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Seebohm Rowntee building<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Seebohm Rowntee building was named after a social pioneer I\u2019ll let you take a wild guess on which one it was. One of the main factors about this building is that it houses multiple departments. For example, the department of health sciences, the department of Social Policy and social work and much more. In relation to the department of health sciences most of my lectures are in this building. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is where I attend my morning nursing lectures with my laptop in one hand and my notepad in the other. The lecture theatres for example ATB\/056 &amp; 057 are split into two sides with a staircase in the middle and on each side allowing you to sit anywhere you like. This lecture theatre has two projection screens, wheelchair access and a replay lecture capture. This makes life so much easier as it&#8217;s easy access to the lectures whether you&#8217;re at home watching it on replay or in the actual lecture theatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clinical simulation unit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now this is where all the fun happens! You&#8217;re in a moving hoist playing as a patient as your friends treat you like one. They move you across the room as you peer down at everyone from a higher distance feeling like you&#8217;re on a swing and holding down the urge to sing I came in like a wrecking ball. I\u2019m hoping this is a universal thought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/02\/image00003-min.jpeg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/02\/image00003-min.jpeg?resize=300%2C225\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15045\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/02\/image00003-min.jpeg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/02\/image00003-min.jpeg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/02\/image00003-min.jpeg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/02\/image00003-min.jpeg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The clinical simulation unit is inside the Seebohm Rowntee building near the reception. There are multiple uses to the CSU besides pretending to be Miley Cyrus such as in person training. The time I\u2019ve spent in the CSU I\u2019ve learned different types of techniques and skills. This includes infection prevention and control, injection techniques, moving and handling and observations. The bane of my existence learning how to take blood pressure. By the time I finally learned it I had to sit down and let someone check mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, the CSU would be my favourite area in the health science buildings. No matter how long the sessions are they end up flying through and you&#8217;re always doing something new. Moving away from home to a new city and not knowing anyone was a big transition for me but I\u2019m glad I did it in the end as I\u2019m now glad to call York my new home as I\u2019ve gained a new community at the University itself and met various new people who I now call my friends. Studying Mental health nursing has been really fun for me as it\u2019s a learn as you go process especially with all the practical learning which is one of the best things I like about my course as the department staff themselves record their own practical technique videos to what we\u2019re going to learn so we can always go back to those videos once we\u2019re at home or even months later to when we did the practical for a refresher. Today I\u2019m going to be giving a run down of the health science buildings and my experience using
