Why I chose to study abroad at York and my first impressions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When studyi<\/span>ng abroad, I knew I wanted a university that combined strong academic programmes with a genuinely supportive student community. The University of York stood out because of its excellent reputation in biosciences, the beautiful campus and the way it emphasised support for international students<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moving to York from Tajikistan was a big step. <\/span>Like any major change, it came with a mix of excitement and uncertainty. I wondered how easy it would be to settle in or if I\u2019d feel out of place. But from my first week, I felt reassured. York is a city that feels safe and peaceful, but never boring. The friendly atmosphere made it much easier to adjust and I started to feel at home quicker than I expected.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting at the International Pathway College (IPC)<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Before starting my MSc, I studied at the University\u2019s International Pathway College (IPC), which was a great stepping stone. It helped me strengthen my academic English, become familiar with the British education system. <\/span>Most importantly, it helped me connect with other international students who were also adapting to a new environment.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IPC staff were incredibly helpful and supportive. I learned so much from them, especially during times when I felt shy or unsure about participating in discussions. They encouraged us to engage in discussions and join various activities, which really helped boost my confidence. That early support has had a lasting impact on how I now approach group work<\/span> and presentations.<\/span> It has also impacted how I approach student life in general.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life as a postgraduate student in Biotechnology<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Now that I\u2019m fully into my postgraduate studies, I can confidently say that it\u2019s been both a rewarding and challenging experience. I expected the course to be intense and it is but I\u2019ve also been pleasantly surprised by how collaborative, interactive and hands-on the learning environment is.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of my favourite parts of the course is working in the labs. Time really flies when you\u2019re in the lab working on experiments<\/span>. It\u2019s engaging and full of valuable learning experiences. We\u2019re constantly picking up new techniques, solving problems, and figuring out how to troubleshoot when things don\u2019t go as expected. These lab sessions keep me motivated and genuinely make me more passionate about the field.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outside of the lab, I try to maintain a healthy balance by spending time on things I enjoy. Cooking is my favourite way to relax, and I\u2019ve had fun trying out new recipes with friends. York\u2019s calm atmosphere also makes it easy to relax, whether by walking along the river or exploring quiet parts of the city.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, my time at York has been a rewarding journey of academic and personal growth, and I\u2019m looking forward to what comes next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re considering York, especially as an international student, my advice is simple: embrace new experiences, stay open to connecting with others and allow yourself time to settle in. University life is not only about studying, it\u2019s also about finding your place, building confidence and exploring what truly inspires you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
