I believe all of you are like me, in that you want to get into a great career after university. However, how does university help you with getting your dream job? In my first two years here at York, I was quite worried that I did not know where to\u00a0seek help for\u00a0my future career. Luckily, the University’s Careers team helped me to understand the future job market through different exhibitions and talks.<\/p>\n
Our University Careers team organised Careers-related events during the autumn term. International corporations, such as Loreal, P&G, HSBC, were invited to lead\u00a0workshops for students. This was so we could\u00a0have a taste of what their assessment centre is like and provide some tips for us to cope with interviews. I attended\u00a0one of their workshops, which was organised by a group of Loreal recruiters, to explore the process of their\u00a0assessment centre. During the workshop, we were asked to prepare a presentation and participate in some tests. It provided me with a unique\u00a0chance to get myself better prepared for graduate job applications.<\/p>\n
Two weeks ago, the York Management School organised a large\u00a0Careers event for Management students. Around 20 well-known British companies were invited into the exhibition and students were provided a chance to talk to them and deepen their understanding of the recruitment process. It also provided a great opportunity for our Management students to have a conversation with the recruiters.<\/p>\n
On that day, I was the student ambassador for the event and I was given a chance to have lunch with all the recruiters. During the lunch, we discussed a lot of different types of working environments and it provided me an opportunity to understand more about\u00a0their companies. It has also been a chance for me to gain experience on communicating with people in business.<\/p>\n
The University Careers team not only provided support through these events, but also held workshops on helping students to design their CV and deal with job interviews. They also welcome students to book appointments with them, to chat through any individual problems they encounter when applying for graduate roles, placements or internships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
