First off, a massive congratulations to everyone holding an offer to study at the University of York!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I\u2019m Samriddhi (she\/her), and I&#8217;m currently in my final year of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/study\/undergraduate\/courses\/ba-business-management\/\" id=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/study\/undergraduate\/courses\/ba-business-management\/\">BA (Hons) Business and Management<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/business-society\/\" id=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/business-society\/\">School for Business and Society<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/\" id=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/\">University of York<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exciting news is, you can now study Business and Management at our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mumbai.york.ac.uk\/\" id=\"https:\/\/www.mumbai.york.ac.uk\/\">new campus in Mumbai<\/a>. <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Choosing where to spend the next few years of your life is a huge decision. You aren&#8217;t just choosing a campus; you&#8217;re choosing the environment that will shape who you become. <\/span>Looking back <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">at my time here, I can honestly say that this programme has done more than just teach me business theories; it&#8217;s helped me discover my voice, my confidence and my future career path.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you&#8217;re wondering what it&#8217;s actually like to study on this programme and why you should enrol, here is my honest experience.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The academic &#8220;eye opener&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Before I started university, I assumed studying business and management would be mostly about memorising definitions and writing standard essays. I couldn&#8217;t have been more wrong.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One of the modules I studied, <\/span>Management in the Twenty-First Century<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, was a total eye-opener. It changed my entire perspective on how the world operates. In this programme, our passionate tutors use <\/span>research-led teaching<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which means we&#8217;re learning about current issues, not just old history.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Th<\/span>e<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> course is designed to trigger <\/span>critical thinking<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Every time I finished a module, I would have this realisation: &#8220;there is so much out there I am still missing.&#8221; That might sound daunting, but in my experience, it&#8217;s actually incredibly motivating. It makes you hungry to learn more, to dig deeper into the data and to understand the &#8220;why&#8221; behind business decisions.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How we learn: it\u2019s not just lectures<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A common question I<\/span>&#8216;m <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">asked is: &#8220;What does a typical week look like?&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At York, they use a wide range of teaching methods to suit different learning styles. It isn&#8217;t just sitting in a lecture hall listening to someone talk. We have:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Lectures:<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to get the core theories<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Small-group seminars:<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> where we discuss and debate ideas<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Activity-based workshops:<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> where we get hands-on<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In your first year, you might have around <\/span>eight to ten hours of timetabled contact time<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> per week (a mix of lectures, seminars and workshops). However, don&#8217;t let that number fool you!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the UK, I<\/span> think <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">full-time students are expected to treat their degree like a full-time job &#8211; working roughly <\/span>40 hours a week<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The time outside the classroom is for <\/span>independent study<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. This is where I prepare for classes, do wider reading, and work on assignments. Personally, I love this structure because it encourages me to take responsibility for my own development. You aren&#8217;t forced to pigeonhole yourself into a niche before you understand the landscape. Over the last two and a half years, I&#8217;ve had the chance to &#8220;taste&#8221; a wide range of subjects, including:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Human Resource Management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marketing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accounting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Having this broad exposure has been crucial for me. It<\/span> allows<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> me to rule out the areas I&#8217;m less passionate about and double down on the ones I love.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And then, I found it. I recently studied a module on <\/span>Supply Chain Management<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and to be honest, oh my goodness, it&#8217;s so intriguing! The course uses practical problems and <\/span>case studies from industrial partners<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, so I could really see the logic and strategy involved in moving goods globally. Before this programme, I hadn&#8217;t seriously considered it as a career path. Now, thanks to that specific module, I know exactly what I want to do<\/span>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Real leadership and employability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This degree is designed to get you hired. Beyond the classroom, the opportunities to build your CV and <\/span>employability skills<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> are endless.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During my time here, I&#8217;ve had the opportunities to hold several positions that have fast-tracked my professional growth. Currently, I am the&nbsp;<\/span>final-year <a href=\"https:\/\/yorksu.org\/activities\/view\/school-for-bs\" id=\"https:\/\/yorksu.org\/activities\/view\/school-for-bs\">Course Representative<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. In this role, I actively represent the &#8220;student voice&#8221;<\/span>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I collaborate with the <a href=\"https:\/\/yorksu.org\/\" id=\"https:\/\/yorksu.org\/\">University of York Students\u2019 Union<\/a> to make real changes.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I gather feedback to ensure our course keeps getting better and better.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I also work as a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/students\/work-volunteering-careers\/apply-interview\/looking-for-work\/temporary\/student-ambassador-scheme\/\" id=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/students\/work-volunteering-careers\/apply-interview\/looking-for-work\/temporary\/student-ambassador-scheme\/\">Student Ambassador<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for the School for Business and Society. I\u2019ve welcomed over 1,000 visitors and acted as a role model for over 500 students. These aren&#8217;t just extracurriculars; they&#8217;re practical experiences that have taught me negotiation, professional communication and leadership.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why you should enrol<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">f you want a programme that challenges you to think critically, allows you to explore different career paths until you find your passion and supports you every step of the way, this is it.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether you&#8217;re studying this programme at York UK or York Mumbai,<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> the BA (Hons) in Business and Management hasn&#8217;t just given me knowledge; it&#8217;s given me a roadmap for my future.
