Moving from Surat, Gujarat to the UK has been one of the most exciting and life-changing decisions I\u2019ve ever made. My name is Dev Vyas, and I\u2019m currently studying the MSc Human-Centred Interactive Technologies programme at the University of York.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a University of York international student<\/strong><\/a>, I came here with a clear vision – to explore the intersection of technology and creativity, and to build a career in user experience and human-centred design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why I Chose MSc Human-Centred Interactive Technologies<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After completing my B.E in Computer Science and Engineering from Gujarat Technological University in 2024, I knew I wanted to specialise further. During my undergraduate studies, I also explored Animation and Multimedia, which sparked my interest in combining creativity with technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While researching options to study in the UK from India, I found that Computer Science at York stood out for its strong focus on human-centred design. What strengthened my decision even further was the reputation of the University of York as a member of the Russell Group, known for its academic excellence and research strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme is also accredited by the British Computer Society, which gave me additional confidence in its industry relevance. Combined with the university\u2019s strong academic reputation, it became a clear choice for me. The programme offers a balance of theory and practical learning, enabling students to design meaningful, user-friendly experiences rather than simply building systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My Application Journey from India<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The application process was smooth and well-supported. I took the Duolingo English Test, and the University of York\u2019s India team guided me throughout – from preparing for my pre-CAS interview to answering all my questions. Receiving a \u00a35,000 scholarship was one of the happiest moments of my journey. Shortly afterwards, I received my CAS and applied for my visa, which was approved in just one day. The university also organised helpful sessions on accommodation and student life, making the entire transition far more manageable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arriving in the UK: My First Experience<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Arriving in a new country for the first time can feel overwhelming\u2014but the moment I stepped out of Manchester Airport and saw students holding University of York boards, I felt an immediate sense of reassurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I moved into Halifax College, and although the first day was emotional\u2014as it was my first time away from my family, the transition quickly became easier. Connecting with other Indian students through the official WhatsApp group helped me settle in, and within a few days, the campus began to feel like home.

Learning Experience: Semester 1<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My academic journey began with induction led by Professor Paul Cairns, who is also my personal supervisor. Semester 1 introduced me to key areas of study, and what stood out most was the teaching approach:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
