I originally intended to take a gap year, but after receiving my results my mother advised me to go through clearing. Neither of us had any knowledge of the processes involved as I had not applied for university. I was extremely panicked. However,\u00a0the school was extremely supportive and we spent results day and the following day on the phone to different universities.<\/p>\n<h2>My experience with York<\/h2>\n<p>I called three universities. There was a lot of waiting and referrals to different people. When speaking to one of the universities, they told me to apply online without having spoken to a member of the department. This is one of the reasons why York stood out. I spoke to a member of the department with whom I could discuss certain details of the course with. They were enthusiastic about me joining the course and were the most reassuring about the whole process.<\/p>\n<p>After changing my UCAS application, I felt extremely relieved and was able to focus on sorting out my finances and accommodation.<\/p>\n<h2>Tips for Clearing<\/h2>\n<p>My top tips for clearing would be to remain calm and to trust those around you. Your teachers will have a lot of experience. Do not just panic and choose the first university you call. Ring other departments where the course is attractive and what you have an interest in.<\/p>\n<p>I would give myself the advice to remain calm, but to remain proactive throughout the whole process and maintain motivation.
