Hey everyone, I’m Katy and this is what Results Day was like for me. So before I actually received my results, I had a niggling feeling that my exams hadn’t gone the way I’d hoped. So when I wasn’t working (I had a part-time job to help me save for uni) I started doing research into other universities and their courses. Then I made a list of where I would want to apply to if things didn’t go my way.<\/p>\n
This actually turned out to be the best thing I could have done. When I opened my results it turned out I was in Clearing and needed to keep fighting for my uni place. Let’s just say the next few hours were filled with stress, tears, ice cream and phone calls. But it was all worth it when I got accepted here.<\/p>\n
After getting my results and going through Clearing, I was a lot more nervous about going to uni than I had been before. I felt that I had something to prove. I think this is completely natural. When you have to take a longer route to your final destination, you want to prove you deserve to be there. However, once you’re at uni, how you got to uni matters a lot less than the fact you’re actually there!<\/p>\n
My lecturers and tutors never once spoke to me about Clearing. They never made me feel like I had to work harder to prove myself. I was the one who kept pushing myself! But when I needed support about my journey to uni, I had my college team who were more than happy to put any worries I had to rest. I know that high levels of support are consistent across all colleges. So regardless of which college you end up in, you’ll have access to fantastic support from day one, and they’ll support you through anything.<\/p>\n
1. Don’t stress too much<\/strong> – if things don’t go your way you have to accept it and focus on achieving your goal.<\/p>\n 2. Go to get your results with friends<\/strong> – they’re the people who will understand how you’re feeling most. I went with my best friends and they were an invaluable source of support because they understood what I was going through.<\/p>\n 3. Make a plan<\/strong> – if you feel like things haven’t gone as well as you hoped. Make a list of other universities, their courses, and entry requirements. This helped me so much because it meant that I could just focus on getting into university rather than having to do a lot of research on the day when my mind was all over the place. A friend in the year below also made a list after seeing how it helped my journey, and it helped her when she ended up in Clearing the following year.<\/p>\n Be proud of what you’ve achieved<\/strong>\u00a0because you’ve achieved something incredible even if it’s not exactly what you wanted.<\/p>\n I chose York because I wanted to stay close to home, and I loved the collegiate system as I knew it would offer me many amazing opportunities. I also loved the course; Accounting, Business Finance and Management (ABFM). It combines the skills I learnt from my A-Levels as well as teaching me something completely new which I love.<\/p>\n York turned out to be the perfect fit for me. It’s a city in which I feel safe and at home in.
