Being familiar with aspects of it that many students aren&#8217;t aware of until their 2nd or 3rd year will put you that extra step ahead. It begins at the Astro Campus behind the Sports Centre and finishes on Campus East. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a fab way to get your bearings before lectures start if the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/admin\/estates\/campus-tree-trail.pdf\">Campus Tree Trail<\/a> isn&#8217;t your thing. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"960\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0055.jpg?resize=720%2C960&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4037\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0055.jpg?w=720&amp;ssl=1 720w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0055.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0055.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;font-weight: bold\">Chill Places<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Being one of the most green (literally) campuses you will ever come across, York naturally has lots of locations ideal for de-stressing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0056.jpg?resize=1024%2C768\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4038\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0056.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0056.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0056.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0056.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>3. <\/em><\/strong>The <strong>Quiet Place Garden <\/strong>is&nbsp;often a place you&#8217;ll have exclusive use of, as you have to first obtain a key card from Derwent Reception to access it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s a small, gated courtyard behind the Quiet Place (recognisable by the large, questionably-shaped bushes &#8211; hard to miss, really) at Heslington Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0059.jpg?resize=1024%2C768\" alt=\"Heslington Hall\" class=\"wp-image-4039\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0059.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0059.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0059.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0059.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Quiet Place<\/strong> itself, although not so hidden, is a really nice place to relax on a sunny day if you can&#8217;t face the 2 minute walk to Derwent and back. It&#8217;s still peaceful and sheltered. Although, you might want to think about bringing a blanket to sit on to avoid the inevitable goose &#8216;residue&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Study spaces<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;re anything like me, when it comes to uni work, you&#8217;ll be much more productive with a change of scenery. As much as I loved my room in first year, I couldn&#8217;t be cooped up all day. I liked to make the most of the variety of places to work on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>4. <\/em><\/strong>The university <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/library\/\">library<\/a><\/strong> is by no means hidden, but it is definitely a gem and has some lesser-known amenities that you can take advantage of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0060.jpg?resize=1024%2C1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4040\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0060.jpg?resize=1024%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0060.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0060.jpg?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0060.jpg?resize=768%2C768&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_0060.jpg?w=960&amp;ssl=1 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, they have <strong>laptops<\/strong> you can borrow should you ever need one. I&#8217;ve used these a few times for spontaneous, mid-exam season library sessions. You&#8217;ve got to make the most of the motivation when it hits you, even if it&#8217;s at 11pm on your way back from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yusu.org\/food-drink\/the-courtyard\">Courtyard<\/a>&nbsp;Cafe. Remarkably, I often found that a troublesome essay became much less-so during these times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>5.&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>The <strong>Fairhurst<\/strong> section of the library actually has its own <strong>kitchen<\/strong> complete with microwave and hot water dispenser. It&#8217;s free for anyone to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_6250.jpg?resize=1024%2C768\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4041\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_6250.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_6250.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_6250.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/img_6250.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve only just found out about this one. I feel like I&#8217;ve been missing out on midnight Pot Noodle opportunities all year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s also recently been made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/library\/news\/2018\/permenant-kitchen\/\">permanent<\/a> after a trial period, so it&#8217;s here to stay. There is also a shower room there too, so technically there&#8217;s no excuse to ever leave (yay).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>6. <\/em><\/strong>My final hidden gems are two new &#8216;libraries&#8217; to campus this past year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/Piazza.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"229\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/Piazza.jpg?resize=300%2C229\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4059\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/Piazza.jpg?resize=300%2C229&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/Piazza.jpg?resize=768%2C586&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/Piazza.jpg?resize=1024%2C781&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/08\/Piazza.jpg?w=1180&amp;ssl=1 1180w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Library@Piazza <\/strong>is on the top floor of the Piazza Building on Campus East. It&#8217;s complete with pretty much every type of soft furnishing you could ask for. Not to mention the fabulous views of the lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Secondly, <strong>Spring Lane Building<\/strong> is home to a great study space that&#8217;s Campus West&#8217;s answer to the new Piazza facility. I made use of it when I fancy different surroundings or something closer to my accommodation on this campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everyone ends up discovering their own favourite part of campus throughout their time at York, but these are just a few of mine to get you started.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Starting any uni is a daunting prospect but York being a campus university definitely eases the transition.
