York city centre is smaller in comparison to other cities, but in no way does that mean there is less to experience, see or do! One of the best things about York is its diversity. Whether you like to drink, eat, explore or party; there is something for everyone. It is filled with unique, vibrant and interesting places. The city is perfect for students, as plenty of these places are either free or have a student discount. Another bonus is that you do not have to pay an extortionate amount to get around town, as a lot of it is walkable!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Extraordinary places to eat<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Spring Espresso<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Whether its breakfast, brunch (we all know students love a lie in) or dinner, there are so many options which cater for everyone. There are endless cute, cosy, independent cafes which are student friendly (i.e. very cheap!). The place to find these cafes would be on Fossgate, which is \u2018York\u2019s Hidden Gem\u2019. Mostly all the shops are independent and it’s 100% worth walking down here to discover a range of amazing places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Top Recommendation:<\/strong> Spring Espresso, Fossgate
\nThey have a range of options from pancakes to paninis! You can get a drink and a filling meal for under \u00a310, so it’s definitely a spot for students. (Also a great Instagram photo, if that\u2019s your vibe.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another great thing about these cafes is that they are perfect for you to grab a drink and complete some Uni work. Going out into town and trying different cafes is a perfect way for you to switch up your work schedule. It will give you a new, chilled environment to work in which will hopefully give some inspiration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Top Recommendation:<\/strong> The Gatehouse, Walmgate
\nThis cafe is attached to the York wall with some of its seating on a terrace literally on those famous walls! This also offers a relatively quiet and cheap coffee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Culture on your doorstep<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Moving on from food, another great thing about York is the amount of culture you have right on your doorstep. There are countless things to do, and the best thing is that they are free (obviously a winner with any student). You would be a fool not to take advantage of these while studying at York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Top Recommendation<\/strong>: York Minster
\nOne of the greatest attractions in York. The best thing is that you can get into the Minster for free with your student card!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

York City Walls<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

If you fancy a stroll in town, then the perfect thing for you would be to walk the walls. They have great views of the city, so they are definitely a good picture spot. If you don’t want to walk the whole thing, then there are steps quite regularly which you can walk down and head back into town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Museum Gardens<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

If walking is not your thing, but you still want to admire the city then grab a meal deal and head to the museum gardens. It is so peaceful, lovely and quiet. On a sunny day, it is the place to be. Also, if you get bored there is a museum which again you can gain access for free with your student card!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nightlife<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

York also has a wide range of bars and clubs if partying is more up your street. If you’re looking for a classic student night, then the University has four official club nights on during the week. All have cheap drinks and are a lot of fun. If you want to be fancier, then York has many bars which have 2-4-1, which is ideal for a student on a budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alternatively, legend says that there are 365 pubs in the centre of York, one for every day of the week! This city is also home to some of the most haunted pubs in Britain, ghost walks at every corner and a bus experience offering tea and cake with a ghost!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Top Recommendation<\/strong>: Dusk, New Street
\nIt has 2-4-1 cocktails (\u00a36.50 for 2!) It has a great vibe where all cocktails are named after celebrities. I would highly recommend Lady Penelope! Also, it isn\u2019t too loud so you can still talk to your friends whilst you sip your cocktails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
