Hey there, I\u2019m Hizzer; a third year Economics student at the University of York. Aside from studies, I am the President of the Economics Society; one of York\u2019s largest societies. Rather than breaking down every day for you I\u2019ll do a brief overview of the week, including bits from the degree, societies and my own social life.<\/p>\n

Monday<\/h2>\n

Being the start of the week I do my best to make sure that I am as productive as possible on Monday, this helps me set the tone for the rest of the week.<\/p>\n

Dissertation research!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I have two hour-long lectures at 9am and 11am. Being given the choice to choose every module I study this year was brilliant. I can be sat talking about the history of economic schools of thought at 9am and then two hours later learning about how economists used experiments to prove or disprove competitive equilibriums.<\/p>\n

After my lectures, I\u2019ll head straight to the library and will find a seat in one of the three areas. It is a Monday so I will most likely sit in the quieter part of the library which will allow me to get a lot done. It\u2019s the first day of the week and I don\u2019t want to work myself too hard so I prepare for tomorrow\u2019s lectures. Not all of my modules require reading but Bubbles, Panics and Crashes<\/em> has a lot of content. By doing the reading in advance,\u00a0I’m able to take a bit more from the lecture.<\/p>\n

Tuesday<\/h2>\n

One of our economics socials<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Tuesday is probably my favourite day of the week because we (Economics Society<\/a>) host our socials.<\/p>\n

After going to my two lectures, I spend a few hours in the library again to go through the worksheets for my Structure and Regulation<\/em> seminar on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Seminars are smaller classes, where you go through work you have typically prepared already with a PhD student. They\u2019re really helpful and are instrumental in helping you prepare for the questions in your exams.<\/p>\n

Our Economics Society socials are usually well attended, we have around 30 – 80 people at any one social. We typically do them with other societies to give our members a chance to meet those from other degrees. We\u2019ve hosted UV socials with the Psychology Society, Camo socials with Law etc. Our socials are typically a crawl through town ending up at Kuda in town.<\/p>\n

Wednesday<\/h2>\n

Wednesday is most likely to be the day of your week where you have spare time in the afternoon. The University doesn’t timetable anything after midday to allow for sports teams to play against each other. In my first year I played football for James College, so Wednesday would be spent playing football. In my third year,\u00a0I’m not playing sports so I now use the time to catch up with all my Netflix shows\u2026 Suits, House of Cards.. you name it.<\/p>\n

Thursday<\/h2>\n

Thursday starts with a seminar again. This time we\u2019re going through the essays that we planned as a mini group over the weekend. It\u2019s helpful planning essays as a group and going through them with a lecturer because you get a better understanding of what\u2019s expected in an exam.<\/p>\n

After work finishes, I head to a meeting with a few of the committee members from the Economics Society (the co-president, two vice-presidents and three social secs). We are planning to host the first New Years Ball at the Hilton hotel next term, so have to sort out what theme we want to go for, as well as a whole load of other logistics. Unfortunately, you’ve missed this one but you\u2019ll be able to come to next year’s ball!<\/p>\n

Friday<\/h2>\n

For me, Fridays are a quieter day because I have no lectures or seminars scheduled. I live in town so instead of going to the University library to work, I\u2019ll walk to the Kings Manor and do some work there. This is the University’s campus in the city centre. After doing a bit of work for a few hours, I head home and start winding down for the weekend.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a lot happening in York on a Friday, there are big techno nights in town or loads of restaurants that have really good offers on \u2013 my favourite is Mirchiz\u2026 they have great deals and the best curries in York!!<\/p>\n

The weekend<\/h2>\n

Weekends for me are a great time to catch up on any work I had left from during the week. I also have some seminars early next week so doing the work\/reading for them is really helpful in making sure I take the most away from those seminars.<\/p>\n

Sundays are most people\u2019s favourite day of the week because it\u2019s the one day of the week where the student night out is a bit dressy\u2026 after spending an hour aimlessly trying to iron my shirt,\u00a0me and my pals head out to town!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
