I study <a href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/study\/undergraduate\/courses\/bsc-business-management\/\">BSc Business and Management<\/a> and I&#8217;m currently on placement with Unilever for my year in industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I found out about Unilever because a business student on placement there from York came in to do a talk during my first year. I applied directly on the company website. Matt from the careers and employability team had a thorough look through my CV. He made some really useful suggestions on content and formatting, which made it much more appealing to read! I successfully got a placement working as a project and process analyst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">My role<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>My role is project-based, so my day to day tasks are very varied. Typically I\u2019ll use Excel quite a lot and will interface with our vendors Capgemini and Accenture Consulting in a project management capacity. I like the amount of responsibility I\u2019m given on my placement; it gives a genuine feeling that you\u2019re adding value to the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The best thing I\u2019ve done so far is leading a Machine Learning project that will influence the way the company forecasts demand globally. It&#8217;s a big responsibility, but the best way to learn is doing. You have to take yourself out of your comfort zone to develop and grow: volunteer for things that you don\u2019t feel confident with and you\u2019ll learn as you go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s a lot of bureaucracy, but this is just a shortfall of working at a large corporation. It&#8217;s offset by a number of benefits. We have a subsidised canteen, free gym and a free Ben &amp; Jerry\u2019s counter!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Studying at York<br><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/management\/\">York Management School<\/a> is an up and coming business school and puts a lot of emphasis on employability. I&#8217;ve really liked my course so far. I never thought that I was a coursework person, but writing focused essays about topics I\u2019m interested in has been much more enjoyable than I imagined!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Living in York is really nice. People in Yorkshire are really friendly and the city has hundreds of pubs and bars.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi, I&#8217;m Anish.
