Congratulations! You\u2019ve received an offer from York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Post-Offer Visit Days are held for students who have been given an offer from the University. Often these days run from January time to about April. They’ll give you the chance to look around the campus, visit the different colleges and accommodation and find out more about the 200+ sports and societies<\/a> available at York!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After receiving all of my offers, I had no idea where I wanted to go. To make my decision easier, I attended Post-Offer Visit Days (sorry Mum!). I found them to be very useful in making my decision, so here are some of my top tips and suggestions to do when attending a Post-Offer Visit Day at York:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Campus:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\"Top<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Walk around the campus, get your bearings and get a feel for which campus you want to live on. This will help you chose your college and subsequently your accommodation. Don’t worry though, whichever one you choose, there’s a free bus between campuses. Make sure you pick up a map when you first arrive. This lets you check out the buildings you want to see and makes sure you don\u2019t get lost!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colleges\/Accommodation:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

York, as a collegiate University, has <\/strong>9 different colleges<\/a>. I would choose a few to look around before you come. There’s a lot of information on the University website which I looked at before so I knew which colleges I wanted to visit. I struggled to choose between the accommodation on Campus West and Campus East<\/a>. If you\u2019re still undecided, it\u2019s definitely worth visiting the colleges on both and talking to the students there! Make sure you consider which campus your lectures will be on as this might affect your choice of college! You should also consider how close each college is to the things that interest you. For example, do you want to be near to the sports facilities? The music block? The library? These are all things to consider\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sports clubs:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There’s University sport which has pretty much any sport you can think of! There’s also college sport where you can play netball, squash, hockey, tennis, football, rugby etc. as part of your college. This tends to be a lot less competitive than Uni level. I’m part of my college\u2019s hockey and tennis team but am also part of the University tennis and polo sport too! I would take the day as an opportunity to check out the different sports stands on the day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t forget there’s lots of different clubs and societies for you to join as well, so make sure you check those out too! This is the best opportunity to ask any questions you may have to students around the campus on the day so make use of it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Facilities:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Most of the facilities on campus are open on the day so make sure you visit some of the buildings that you think you will use. I checked out the Law and Management building, the Library, Piazza building and the gym as well as Central Hall and some of the other key buildings on campus West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Course:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I would definitely recommend printing off the timetable for the day. This will often be emailed to you or will be on the York University website. The timetable will outline any sample lectures or department talks going on during the day. Make sure you don\u2019t miss these as they\u2019re a great introduction to your course. They’ll allow you to get a valuable insight into the topics you\u2019ll be encountering during your degree!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

City:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\"Top<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

If you have time, or are up for the weekend as I was, make sure you check out the city. It\u2019s not far from the campus (around a 30\/40-minute walk, easily cyclable or a quick bus ride away). This will help you get a feel for the place and help you consider whether you can see yourself living here for the next 3 years (or more!) You’ll also get the chance to check out some of the cool restaurants and bars the city has to offer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, I would use this opportunity as a great insight into life at York. Don\u2019t expect to come away from the day decided on what University you want to go to. If you do, great, but if not don\u2019t worry! I recommended sleeping on it. It took me a good few weeks but I chose York as my top choice soon enough and I think a lot of credit can be given to attending the Post-Offer Visit Day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
