I hope my time at university doesn&#8217;t give me a lasting association of Christmas with revision. But I have the weekend to relax now.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">I have to say that this festive period wasn&#8217;t improved by the fear of flooding, before I went away the river had already burst its banks, leaving the route I take into town and one of the pubs I frequent very much under water.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/IMG_0458.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-634\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-634 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/IMG_0458-e1452444858664-225x300.jpg?resize=225%2C300\" alt=\"IMG_0458\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/IMG_0458-e1452444858664.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/IMG_0458-e1452444858664.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/IMG_0458-e1452444858664.jpg?w=720&amp;ssl=1 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">But I was very relieved to find out our student house wasn&#8217;t flooded when our YUSU President, Ben Leatham, kindly took photos of all the common student accommodation areas. I think the only thing that would have benefited from the flooding is my chilli plant, that I got over a year ago now during freshers\u2019 week, and I sadly forgot to take back home with me and am now desperately trying to nurse back to health.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/IMG_1005.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-635\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-635 size-medium aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/IMG_1005-e1452444875318-225x300.jpg?resize=225%2C300\" alt=\"IMG_1005\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/IMG_1005-e1452444875318.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/IMG_1005-e1452444875318.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/IMG_1005-e1452444875318.jpg?w=720&amp;ssl=1 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Most of my time over Christmas was spent preparing for my \u2018signals and systems\u2019 exam. I think the module\u00a0might have developed a\u00a0reputation over the years\u00a0for being difficult but it\u2019s one of the most important. I\u2019ll also be applying what I learned in other modules this term such as \u2018Control Engineering\u2019, which I&#8217;m looking forward to.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">To help me with this revision I had the company of a rather large and grumpy ball of fluff, who can be seen here being rather possessive over a copy of \u2018The Cultural History of Russia\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/IMG_1006.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-636\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-636 size-medium aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/IMG_1006-e1452444888914-224x300.jpg?resize=224%2C300\" alt=\"IMG_1006\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/IMG_1006-e1452444888914.jpg?resize=224%2C300&amp;ssl=1 224w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/IMG_1006-e1452444888914.jpg?resize=768%2C1028&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/IMG_1006-e1452444888914.jpg?resize=765%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 765w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/IMG_1006-e1452444888914.jpg?w=717&amp;ssl=1 717w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Along with revision this holiday I also had a C Programming Assignment, for my \u2018Data Structures and Algorithms\u2019 module, to write a predictive text program. This was actually quite enjoyable, once I&#8217;d got it all planned out, and as a way of rounding off this module I thought it worked really well. I had to make use of all the new concepts we\u2019d been taught this term.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">The lecturer for this module did a really great job at teaching these concepts, especially considering it was the first time he\u2019d taught it, with lectures that really supported the programming labs well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">During the mix of all this festive revision and programming I also attended\u00a0an assessment centre, for an assessment with a company for a year in industry. I&#8217;m sad to say I was unsuccessful, but it was still good practice and experience for any applications I have in the future. I would advise anyone applying for an internship with a company to get in touch with the University of York careers service for any advice and tips they can give to help.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well exams are finally over!
