Here are some of the things I love about being at York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Meeting new friends<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/01\/meet-friends-c38.jpg?resize=284%2C378\" alt=\"Meeting friends on campus\" class=\"wp-image-6407\" width=\"284\" height=\"378\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll meet all of your course mates in lectures, as everyone has the same schedule in first year. I felt a bit lost and overwhelmed on the first day, but it got better over time. I told myself that other people were probably just as lost as I was. It took me a few lectures to meet my current lecture buddy, and we\u2019ve been sitting together since then. It\u2019s pretty much like fate \u2013 sometimes you&#8217;ll just have to give it some time. Very exciting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Participating in experiments<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/01\/oppotunities.jpg\" alt=\"The lake at sunset\" class=\"wp-image-6408\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are a lot of opportunities to participate in experiments here at York. Every week, there are different studies that you can take part in. For instance,&nbsp;sleep studies, EEG studies, computer response-based studies, and many more. Not only can you gain experience through participating, but you can also earn course credits or even get some extra cash! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The researchers are also happy to answer your questions about the experiments, so you can definitely learn a lot through that. I know it\u2019s a bit too early to think about your future research topic, but these opportunities can surely inspire you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Location of the Psychology buildings<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/01\/location74.jpg\" alt=\"The Psychology building\" class=\"wp-image-6411\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My flatmates in different subjects always talk about how they have to go to classes earlier, as they have to find their way to the lecture rooms all over campus. The Psychology Buildings have their own complex \u2013 all of the lectures, tutorials, and practicals are in the same place. In fact, almost all lectures happen in the same room! Everything is in one place, so you won&#8217;t have to worry about getting lost. Other Psychology students are also more than happy to point you in the right direction. Excellent for students who rush to classes last-minute (like me).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Amazing environment<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/01\/duck-c30.jpg?resize=311%2C415\" alt=\"A duck\" class=\"wp-image-6412\" width=\"311\" height=\"415\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019ve lived in a metropolitan city for years, with crowded streets and skyscrapers everywhere. It\u2019s nice to have a change in environment. York is a really cosy place to be. When I have free time between lectures, I like to stroll around the campus lake and get some fresh air. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you happen to be an animal-lover, or more specifically, a duck\/goose-lover, York is the place for you. You can get the \u00a31 duck feed from Nisa and feed ducks and geese all over the campus. Look out for the University of York one-and-only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/longboiyork\/?hl=en\">Longboi<\/a>! If you want to know more about the duck population at York, or simply appreciate some ducks, you can check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.duckoftheday.co.uk\/\">Duck of the Day page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Selecting universities can be daunting. To me, besides wonderful and engaging lecturers and tutorial leaders, the environment is a crucial factor as well. Remember, you\u2019ll be living there for the next few years.
