Let\u2019s start at the beginning shall we?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Staff care so much<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My absolute FAVOURITE thing, and what you should DEFINITELY be looking forward to most about joining the Management School is the quality of the lecturers\/tutors\/supervisors. I\u2019ve got to know several members of academic staff throughout my time at uni. Hand on heart I can tell you that their top priority is students. They genuinely care about us and our progress. They are always happy for you to come and have a chat about anything, be it academic or personal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I always know that I can go and get feedback from my tutors on essays, or ask them questions if I\u2019ve not understood something in a lecture or seminar. All they want is to see us succeed and do the best that we can. It really comes across in the way we get taught. The fact the staff care so much about our wellbeing<\/a> is my favourite thing about studying here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Module variety<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Next on the list is the variety of modules you get to study. Every course the Management School offers<\/a> is so different. In your second and final years (depending which course you\u2019re on) you get even more flexibility, choosing your own option modules. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s great that you\u2019re not pushed into specialising in one area. You get to learn about a wide range of things relating to management. That means its easier to keep your options open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workload is manageable as well, so you have plenty of time to take advantage of all the opportunities the uni has to offer! I play sport<\/a>, join societies<\/a> (and run one!), take part in college activities<\/a> and have a job alongside my studies. Even though I\u2019m very busy, my life isn\u2019t all about uni work: I\u2019m definitely having fun too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So much support<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Finally, last on my list is the support you get. When you start at York you\u2019ll be allocated an academic supervisor. They become your first point of contact about any issues you have during your time at uni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Truth be told, I struggled to settle in at uni. No-one ever talks to you about what to do if you don\u2019t enjoy uni straight away. It feels like there\u2019s so much pressure for it to be the best time of your life. When I wasn\u2019t feeling that I didn\u2019t know what to do. That\u2019s one of the things that your supervisor is there for: to talk to you about how you\u2019re feeling and to help you settle in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I can honestly say my supervisor is the reason I’m still at uni. I\u2019ve been quite lucky that he has taught me every year (and was also my supervisor whilst I was on placement). At the end of lectures and seminars he would always ask if I was doing okay and if there was anything he could do to help me. Even three years later, he still checks that I\u2019m okay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Careers support<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The support isn’t just from your personal supervisor. The Management School also has a dedicated in-house careers team which is AMAZING when you\u2019re looking for placements\/internships\/grad jobs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year I spent the year on placement<\/a>. It\u2019s a bit like a year abroad but instead of going to a different country you work with a company to get more experience<\/a>. The amount of support I had from the careers team during my search for a placement was incredible. They were always ready to check over my CV, read through applications, practice interviews and give me a pep talk when I needed one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I came back for my final year, I wasn\u2019t sure whether to do a Masters or go for a graduate job. The whole team supported me through applying for both. It really helped me make my mind up about what I want to do after graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So that\u2019s my top three things that you\u2019ve got to look forward to about coming to the Management School. Of course, there\u2019s so much more than what I\u2019ve talked about here, but you\u2019ve got to find some things out for yourself! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
