1000px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-731\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Here is a sample of a First Year Psychology timetable!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>First and second year timetables are of a very similar layout in our department<\/li>\n<li>They aim to <strong>teach you everything<\/strong> they can fit into your first two years<\/li>\n<li>You to then\u00a0decide\u00a0which areas to <em><strong>branch off into for third year<\/strong><\/em> (where you will write a <strong>dissertation (EW)<\/strong> but also carry out your very own <strong>psychological experiment (YAY)<\/strong>!!).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The course is split into 5 blocks;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Research Methods<\/strong> (experiments and statistics, yawn&#8230;),<\/li>\n<li><strong>Development and Language<\/strong> (child development, bilinguals&#8230;)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Perception and Cognition<\/strong> (vision, memory&#8230;)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Social, Personality and Abnormal<\/strong> (depression, schizophrenia, relationships&#8230;)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Brain and Behaviour<\/strong> (biological factors in personality, dementia&#8230;)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You receive a <em>lecture<\/em> from each module <strong>every week<\/strong>, and a <em>tutorial<\/em> on each module every <strong>4 weeks.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lectures are your <em>whole year group<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Tutorials are around <em>10-12 students<\/em> and you have chance to ask <strong>questions<\/strong> and get involved in <strong>discussions<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>One <em>practical<\/em> for each module over the year where you get to carry out some <strong>research<\/strong> and write up your own <strong>report.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<p><a 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul id=\"attachment_738\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 480px\">Prism Goggle Practical!<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On a Friday morning from <em>January through to Easter<\/em> I visited the <strong>Special Needs department<\/strong> of a high school in York through <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/students\/work-volunteering-careers\/skills\/volunteer\/ysis\/\" target=\"_blank\">YSIS (York Students In Schools)<\/a><\/strong><\/em> but there are soooo many <strong>work experience opportunities<\/strong> for you to get involved in in York!<\/p>\n<p>There is plenty of time off for you to do <strong><em>reading<\/em><\/strong> prior to the lectures (or at least try), do assignments and of course, to <strong>hang out with friends.<\/strong> I would often <strong><em>go home<\/em><\/strong> for weekends too, it took me 2 hours by train to North Wales, reports<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li>One <em><strong>essay<\/strong><\/em> per module over the year<\/li>\n<li><strong>Exams<\/strong> for each module are sat in<em><strong> January<\/strong><\/em> and more\u00a0in <em><strong>May,<\/strong><\/em> <strong>BUT<\/strong>&#8230; they are <em>multiple choice<\/em> exams for your first two years!!!
