York is an incredible place to study the history of art! Aside from the course, there are so many opportunities – like hundreds of societies<\/a> to join. York is unique in that it offers a large range of modules to choose from. This allows you to specialise and really focus on what interests you. More than this, staff prioritise our career development – an unfortunately common stressor in the art world!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the course<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For the best things to look forward to, we start with the course modules<\/a> – which can range from Islamic Architecture in Medieval Anatolia, to Art in the USA – and the field trips. From 1st Year, you’re sent on as many trips as possible; you can’t beat viewing art in person. These range from local trips around Yorkshire, to your 3rd-Year trip, where you go to places like Istanbul or Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

History of Art staff<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

While we have a large number of staff in History of Art, it’s still small enough that you can really benefit from getting to know your lecturers<\/a>. The staff are so friendly, and love to involve themselves with any projects you may be running while you’re studying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Extra activities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The course benefits from art-based societies like the Norman Rea Gallery<\/a> (the student-run gallery on campus), Art History Society<\/a> (for art-based trips and socials) and Art Society<\/a>! This is a great way to develop your interests outside the course and meet people with similar passions. This could involve developing curatorial skills in the gallery, or life drawing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Studying here allows you to make your engagement with History of Art as personal as you’d like, with incredible opportunities to travel and develop outside your course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
