Scholarships<\/a> are a great opportunity for anyone looking to study at University. At York, lots of scholarships are awarded every year. So, we thought we\u2019d ask some of our international scholarship recipients for their top tips on writing a scholarship application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take your time <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You will need several drafts of your scholarship application before it is ready, and it is also good to not work on it for a couple of days before arriving at the final version of the application. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be yourself <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Consciously reflect on why you want a degree and try to portray your personality in your scholarship application, and make sure you are honest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be organised<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Make sure you know the deadline to apply for the scholarship – double mark it on your calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Read the instructions and questions carefully<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Read the instructions and application questions very carefully. The terms and conditions of scholarships are always laid out clearly and are there for a reason. You also need to think through the application questions and figure out what the questions really want you to answer. It’s always a good idea to ask for assistance if you don’t fully understand the questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be yourself<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Try and make your personality shine through. Remember, the selection committee will be reading through thousands of applications, therefore you must show your individuality and passion to make you stand out and why you are the most eligible candidate. Address all the points that they require and show them how you meet those requirements. It’s always good to give examples of personal experiences related to the questions if you have enough space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take your time<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Don’t rush to submit your application. When completing your application, check and make sure it’s grammatically correct with no obvious errors, then save first and wait until the next day to have another read-through before final submission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carry out research about the scholarship in advance and ensure you have all the necessary information before commencing the application process. This will allow you to work smarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be authentic and employ ingenuity in how you approach the essay prompts. However, do not get carried away. Ensure that your main focus is to su\ufb03ciently answer the specific questions asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Give it your all<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Give your absolute best to the application but keep an open mind with regards to the outcome of your application. Do not let an undesired response deter you from your goals and pursuit for higher education and knowledge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
