Six months later and we have raised over \u00a3350 for 2 local charities (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.martinhouse.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Martin House Children&#8217;s Hospice<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peterpannursery.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">PeterPan Nursery<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h3><strong>York Sport<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The university has two gyms &#8211; one based on Heslington East which has lots of gym equipment, a swimming pool and leisure facilities as well as holding all kinds of classes. The other gym is based on Heslington West which also has lots of gym equipment. <a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/HIRESLogo.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-816\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-816 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/HIRESLogo.jpg?resize=175%2C89\" alt=\"HIRESLogo\" width=\"175\" height=\"89\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/HIRESLogo.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/HIRESLogo.jpg?resize=300%2C153&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/HIRESLogo.jpg?resize=768%2C391&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/HIRESLogo.jpg?resize=1024%2C521&amp;ssl=1 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 175px) 100vw, 175px\" \/><\/a>I\u00a0have found going to the gym really beneficial in dealing with stresses as well as something to do in my spare time. There are 63 sports clubs at the York Sport Union so there are many sports to try whether you want to play competitively or just want to be part of a team. Some of the activities include increasing educational opportunities through guest speakers and courses, planning social events, fundraising, and charity work. Each year there is an election to vote in new committee members so if you want to run for one of the roles or just be a member, the society welcomes you!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>York University Student Union (YUSU)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The university has a big Students&#8217; Union which has a very strong presence across the campus. The mission statement is &#8216;representation, provide opportunities and run services for all stu<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/yusu-logo.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-819\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-819 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/yusu-logo.png?resize=304%2C114\" alt=\"yusu-logo\" width=\"304\" height=\"114\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/yusu-logo.png?w=304&amp;ssl=1 304w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/yusu-logo.png?resize=300%2C113&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 304px) 100vw, 304px\" \/><\/a>dents&#8217;. To find out more information about the student union, including volunteering opportunities and events, please visit the website where there is lots of useful information:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.yusu.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.yusu.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>One amazing part of YUSU is that there are over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yusu.org\/opportunities\/societies\" target=\"_blank\">170 student societies<\/a>, so whatever you may be interested in, you&#8217;re bound to find something! During the start of the first term, there are plenty of give-it-a-go events where you can go to taster sessions run by different societies. Also, there is a Freshers Fair where all the societies come together to promote their society which is a good way to sign up to lots of things that interest you and meet people.
