About me<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Hi I\u2019m Sonam and I\u2019m currently in my third year of my PhD in Mechanistic Biology! <\/a>When joining the University I decided to be part of Wentworth College<\/a>. It is a purely postgraduate college and a hub for postgraduate students like me on Campus West<\/a>. In this blog, I’ll be telling you a little bit about accommodation in York and what Wentworth can offer you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Living in Wentworth College<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Wentworth College has several communal spaces for postgraduates to use, enjoy and relax in! For example, the Wentworth Graduate Common Room is perfect for getting together for a few games and socialising. Inside the room, there is a table tennis table, darts board, piano and keyboard, cross trainer, and TV with a selection of films! A PS4, SNES classic, classical guitar and Mahjong set can be signed out at Wentworth reception. There is also a Senior Common Room open to all postgraduates 24 hours a day! This is a comfy space, suitable for quiet socialising, study, refreshments, and informal meetings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As well as providing a social space for postgraduate students, Wentworth has a dedicated team of staff and students available to offer support and advice.  The college employs two college life advisors. These are current postgraduate students who work closely with the college and support community activity. They do this by offering peer support for issues such as making friends, networking, and settling into Postgraduate life at York!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since I began studying at York I\u2019ve had great experiences being part of the college. Wentworth frequently put on different activities for postgraduates.
I regularly attend Zumba; which allows me to keep fit and have fun, whilst meeting other Zumba lovers at the same time! I really appreciated how Wentworth adapted to the lockdowns too. My Zumba classes moved online meaning I could still exercise, but this time from the comfort of my own room! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Living off campus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Many postgraduate students choose to live off-campus and find their own flat or house online. There are several accommodation providers who offer a range of room types. These include shared flats and private studios for students who would like their own kitchen areas and bathrooms.

For example, Foss studios, Percy\u2019s Place and Samuel Tuke Apartments, all owned by the company Hello Student<\/a>, offer rooms to cater for every student budget and are located only a short walk away from the University. On Walmgate in York city centre, there is Student Castle<\/a> and ABODE<\/a>. These offer a selection of rooms with modern facilities and are very popular with students. For students who prefer to live in shared houses external websites Spare Room<\/a> and Homestay<\/a> can be used to find suitable housing too. On these websites you can carry out an advanced search using their filters (e.g. price range, type of room, age of potential roommates and much more). The Graduate Student Association<\/a> also has the \u2018GSA find a housemate<\/a>\u2019 page on Facebook for students wanting to find housemates to share with in the private sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even if you live off campus you\u2019ll still be a member of the college community. And if any problems arise finding accommodation, accommodation services<\/a> are always willing to help.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
