{"id":876,"date":"2016-02-12T09:42:56","date_gmt":"2016-02-12T09:42:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/?p=876"},"modified":"2016-02-12T09:42:56","modified_gmt":"2016-02-12T09:42:56","slug":"college-courses-cases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/2016\/02\/12\/college-courses-cases\/","title":{"rendered":"College, Courses and Cases!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Hello<\/strong><\/em> again everyone!<\/p>\n<p>I thought I\u2019d base this blog mainly on <strong>accommodation<\/strong> as that\u2019s likely to be your next step in preparation for coming to York (<em>because you obviously chose us!<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>York has a number of different <strong>colleges<\/strong> housing students of all years, over <strong>two campuses<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 <em><strong>Campus West (where Psychology is based) and Campus East<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some pointers on choosing where you go\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t rule out Campus East just because Psych teaching is mainly based on Campus West \u2013 I lived in<strong> Constantine College<\/strong> (East) in my first year and <em><strong>loved it<\/strong><\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>bus is free<\/strong>\u00a0between campuses<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s nice to <strong>travel<\/strong> and see more of York<\/li>\n<li>You have <strong><strong>more friendship groups<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Do bear in mind \u2013 <em>the more you pay, the more you get!<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>Constantine and Langwith are the most expensive but are only a few years old. Both colleges include a \u00be sized bed, ensuite or shared bathroom and from 2016\/17 kitchen areas include a sofa area and TV.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Don\u2019t stress over it too much<\/strong><\/em> as you may not\u00a0get your first choice anyway!\n<ul>\n<li>York offer their accommodation by <strong>allocating early applications first<\/strong> so depending on when you apply, you might not get your first, second, or even third choice.<\/li>\n<li>And remember \u2013 you can always\u00a0apply to swap rooms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Remember to decide if you want <strong>catered or self-catered<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>James, Derwent and Vanbrugh offer catered rooms. Your freshers week will be pretty busy so stock up on lots of snacks and goodies to keep you going (until you figure out how to get <strong>Domino&#8217;s<\/strong> delivered)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;m going to be honest with you all; <em><strong>living away from home is hard<\/strong><\/em>. To do something <strong>life changing<\/strong> and have outrageous amounts of <strong>fun<\/strong> along the way!<\/p>\n<p>Uni is about <em><strong>learning about yourself<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; what you like, don&#8217;t like, what you want to do in the future and definitely don&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s <strong>scary,<\/strong> anyone who isn&#8217;t slightly nervous is lying to themselves!
