Hi! My name is Nina, and I am studying Marketing<\/a> at the University of York. H<\/span>opefully this blog will give you an insight into what studying Management at York is like, and what I love about it. I will also be talking about how students can shape our courses and the friendly community <\/span>here. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back when I was applying for university, the Church Lane building was in construction. The new Church Lane building is now up and running, and houses Management.\u00a0I can confirm it is a great place to study!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How we can shape our courses <\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

One great thing about studying Management is how we are encouraged to speak up and make suggestions <\/span>about the course. At the beginning of each academic year, we are asked to nominate a course representative. The course representatives pass on any comments we may have about how the course is going. Whether it\u2019s positive or negative, all comments are kept confidential. This <\/span>allows students to actively shape the course, <\/span>and improvements can be made to ease the process of our studies. Positive comments also allow course leaders to understand what <\/span>we like in particular, so<\/span> this can be maintained and applied to similar aspects of the course. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

M<\/span>anagement also give us the opportunity to partake in answering regular surveys (which are also kept anonymous). This is a super useful way to help staff understand what we are enjoying about the teaching and assessments. It is really beneficial for staffto gain our feedback because with our opinions, the University can tailor our experience specifically to us and make relevant changes. So, it is good to know that if you are struggling or not enjoying any aspects, staff are always happy to take our thoughts into consideration.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting involved in the Management community <\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Starting university can be an extremely daunting<\/span>! But don\u2019t worry, there are plenty of ways to make the process less scary and get involved<\/span>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One way is to immerse yourself in the Management community. You can do this by joining a society. The University has plenty of societies<\/span> where you can meet new people with similar interests. Some brilliant examples are the Business Management and Accounting Society<\/a>, Entrepreneurs Society<\/a> and Global Markets and Trading Society<\/a>. Each society has weekly meet-ups and events for you to get involved in! Be sure to check out the full list over on the Students’ Union (YUSU) website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Management staff also host regular events for students. For example, this month there was a free film and pizza night in the Church Lane Building. The Church Lane Building is a new modern building with plenty of space to study. There are<\/span> plenty of photos of it here<\/a> if you’re interested. I have had a fair amount of group work to do, so I’ve been meeting my course mates there too. What I love about it is that there are plenty of break out rooms and social spaces for us to study in. The best part has definitely got to be The Link Caf\u00e9<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Link has such a wide variety of items on the menu. From bubble waffles to bao buns, it has got you covered! They also serve Starbucks so if you are feeling tired you can grab a coffee to keep you going. I have attached some photos of the food, so be sure to check them out if you are interested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
