Here are some of my favourite places to get Asian food and shopping<\/span><\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hong Kong Restaurant<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To all the Hong Kong students out there, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Upper-River-Restaurant-%E4%B8%8A%E6%B0%B4%E7%AB%99-319881108424011\/\"><b>Upper River Restaurant (\u4e0a\u6c34\u7ad9)<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is the one that is not to be missed! Upper River Restaurant is a <\/span><b>\u2018Cha Chaan Teng\u2019 (\u8336\u9910\u5ef3)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and f<\/span>or those who do not know the term, it basically refers to the type of Hong Kong restaurant that serves international fusion dishes. Back in the days when the place was still a British colony, Cha chaan teng was an affordable alternative to the costly European restaurants. Examples of beverages include Hong Kong-style milk tea and lemon iced tea etc. And all of these are only a small part of what the restaurant offers! As a Hong Konger myself, this place has surely cured my homesickness!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Japanese Restaurants<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Apart from my home dishes, Japanese cuisines have always been irresistible to me. My favourite Japanese restaurants in York have to be Shiitakeya and Ippuku Teahouse.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shiitakeya<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/12\/img_9076.JPG\" alt=\"Japanese Dishes from Shiitakeya\" class=\"wp-image-9510\" \/><figcaption>Japanese Dishes from Shiitakeya<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Founded by a Hong Kong couple, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/shiitakeya.york\"><b>Shiitakeya<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is located on the quiet street of Walmgate where many other small-scale shops are located and await you to explore. Despite being small, the restaurant offers various mouthwatering Japanese dishes. I ordered <\/span><b>Unagi Don<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which is <\/span><b>a rice bowl topped with grilled eel in a mild sweet sauce<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> a few days ago when I hang out with my friends. The wooden furniture and bar tables with the yellow lighting of the shop also remind me of some of the Japanese pubs that I went to while I was travelling in Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ippuku Teahouse<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/12\/img_9033.JPG\" alt=\"Asian Food and Shopping in York - a selection of photos of the interior of Ippuku Teahouse\" class=\"wp-image-9511\" \/><figcaption>Ippuku Teahouse<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One of the things that makes <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ippukuteahouse.com\/\"><b>Ippuku Teahouse<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> stand out has to be its cosy and relaxing atmosphere and I personally love the atmosphere very much. The Japanese cafe does not only serves some common Japanese dishes like <\/span><b>Chicken Teriyaki Don<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><b>GyuDon<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which is a rice bowl topped with beef and onion simmered in a Japanese-style sweet sauce, the place also<\/span><b> serves light snacks, cakes and coffee<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, making it a perfect place to spend time and chit chat with your friends and family.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thai Restaurants<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/zaapthai.co.uk\/locations\/zaap-thai-street-food-york\/\"><b>Zaap Thai<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/bamboothaiyork.co.uk\/\"><b>Bamboo Thai<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> are two of the Thai restaurants you can find in York. Both places offer a range of Thai dishes, including my all-time favourites <\/span><b>chicken pad Thai<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><b>Massaman curry with rice<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Don\u2019t forget to also try their <\/span><b>skewers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><b>Thai iced milk tea<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">! Both restaurants have special designs to add a little bit of a Thai vibe while you are enjoying their food.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Asian Shopping<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When it comes to Asian Shopping, <\/span><b>Red Chilli Supermarket<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is the one that I go to the most. Although my Hong Kong friends always call it a Chinese supermarket, it actually sells all sorts of different oriental groceries and thus it\u2019s more like an oriental supermarket. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Here you can get Japanese style sauces like mirin to cook your homemade Katsudon, or Korean Kimchi to make your Kimchi fried rice! You can also get Asian instant noodles for times when you are too lazy to cook and wash, or frozen meatballs when you are fascinating a Hong Kong-style hot pot!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.york.ac.uk\/student-voices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/12\/img_9032.JPG\" alt=\"Asian Food and Shopping in York -Groceries from Red Chilli Supermarket\" class=\"wp-image-9512\" \/><figcaption>Groceries from Red Chilli Supermarket<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There&#8217;s still a lot to be explored!
