I wanted a space to explore and apply different theories and make a real difference with my knowledge. This program gave me a chance to hit the ground running and learn from the first day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What impact do you want to make on people\u2019s lives?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>My interests lie in mental health and improving people\u2019s understanding of their own wellbeing. I want to be part of creating sustainable differences in the way people think about mental health and asking for help around their mental wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What advice would you give to anyone who is studying for a degree but is thinking about social work as a career?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It is an extremely rewarding career, but it comes with its challenges. There are ample opportunities to keep growing and developing your skills, and your work is never complete. It is fast-paced, lively and has some extremely talented people within it! It combines the best of the social sciences and, as such, you must come into it with an open mind and be extremely adaptable!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What has been different about studying at postgraduate level (having completed a course at undergraduate level)?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The wonderful thing about this course is the placements that are offered. There is ample opportunity to learn about several different kinds of disciplines and you can see how these translate into practice. There is so much room to ask questions and explore your own areas of interest, and you come out more rounded than at the undergraduate level. Also, there is an emphasis on exploration that isn\u2019t usually the focus at the undergraduate level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What have you enjoyed most about the course so far?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>My favourite thing about the course is the balance between theory and practice. &nbsp;I have enjoyed the exposure to different disciplines and the emphasis on holistic learning. Nothing is off-limits, and it is a very encouraging environment to explore and learn!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Has anything surprised you?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>My perception of social work has evolved immensely throughout my time on the course. I have been challenged in different ways and been encouraged to evaluate my personal value system in the context of the work, which has been extremely interesting to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Has your understanding of social work changed since you started the course and if so, how?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Definitely! The course equips you with adequate theoretical and practical knowledge about social work.
