A Week in the Life of a 1st-Year Film Student

Hi! I’m Ollie and I’m a first year Film and TV Production student here at York. I thought it would be useful to talk about my personal experience starting this course so that you can gain an insight into it. The TFTI department has been so welcoming over the past term, from the TFTI building tour to the welcome drinks reception. As someone with anxiety, I was nervous about joining such an interactive, hands-on department but I’m so glad I did and I’d love to share that experience with you all! In my blog, I mention one of my first assessments and the process of developing my script for it. I touch on how the work we do in lectures and seminars has supported my individual studies. University is very different from high school but it’s such a fun and engaging new experience – I hope you’re excited! 🙂

My tales of a TFTI student – exploring the TV facilities

What I love most about the course is just how creative and inventive everything is, not just the content of the lectures, but also the teaching methods themselves. Studying in the Department of Film, TV and Interactive Media (TFTI) can be both challenging and rewarding – often at the same time! In this blog I will tell you about the TV facilities here at York and my experience with them across a variety of roles. I will also share some useful tips about working in the studios and a few anecdotes about the ingenious ways we were taught certain skills. The studio sessions were the highlight of my week and I hope you’ll share my excitement when you begin your courses!
