A Week in the Life of a Theatre Student in Prod Week!

Hi there, I’m Sophie, a third-year student on the Theatre: Writing Directing and Performance course here at York! A question I asked of all the universities I considered was how they balance practical work and theory. One of the things I love the most about the structure of the course here at York is the way it builds and to become more independent and allow you more creative freedom as you progress and begin to specialise in your preferred areas. The Pre-1900s module in third is one of the most anticipated parts of the course and I’m super lucky to have opportunity to share with you my ‘week in the life’ post about my experience in production week as a co-director!

A Week in the Life of a 1st-Year Film Student

Hi! I’m Ollie and I’m a first year Film and TV Production student here at York. I thought it would be useful to talk about my personal experience starting this course so that you can gain an insight into it. The TFTI department has been so welcoming over the past term, from the TFTI building tour to the welcome drinks reception. As someone with anxiety, I was nervous about joining such an interactive, hands-on department but I’m so glad I did and I’d love to share that experience with you all! In my blog, I mention one of my first assessments and the process of developing my script for it. I touch on how the work we do in lectures and seminars has supported my individual studies. University is very different from high school but it’s such a fun and engaging new experience – I hope you’re excited! 🙂

Studying Social and Political Sciences (SPS) – a week in the life

Hey! I’m Iona, and I’m a second year Social and Political Sciences with Philosophy student at the University of York. I’ve loved my time here so far, and I wanted to share what it’s like being part of the SPS department. When I began my degree, I didn’t realise just how diverse my studies would be, and how many opportunities I would have. From picking a variety of modules I find really interesting to making friends in lots of different departments, life as an SPS student has a lot to offer. It’s going to be hard to write about an average week in the SPS department, since each week is so different, but I’ll give it a go! I’ve had a look back at my timetable and in this blog post I’m going to give a rough idea of the kind of things I’ve got up to.

A week in the life of an aspiring forensic psychologist

In my blog I hope to inform prospective students hoping to go into Forensic Psychology/other relevant disciplines what to expect in a typical week: with a few social activities mixed in! I also hope to shed some light on the amazing support from the psychology department and all the targeted help they give.

My favourite thing about university is the constant opportunities of independence to build your confidence. You choose what course you want to do, which modules you take, and where to take your knowledge. Psychology at York University really helps you take hold of where you want your future to go.

What’s it really like being a History student at York?

Hey, I’m Laura! I am a third year student studying for a BA in History at the University of York. I just wanted to let you know about the things I get up to as a history student, and what it is like studying at York. In my blog, I’ll mention how I plan my week around my seminars, dissertation work as well as having fun out and about York. University is about opportunities and making the most out of the experiences that are offered. I’ve been lucky enough to be selected to work on projects for the National Railway Museum and the York Museums Trust. There is absolutely no pressure to get stuck into everything, but university is the perfect time to try something new, pick a module that covers a topic you haven’t covered before, join a new club- I joined college football to meet new people and I love it! Just remember to enjoy yourself and make the most of what’s on offer as 3 years can go really quickly.
