Hey guys! My name is Christine, you might have come across one or two of my previous blogs, such as my ‘What I wish I knew before starting my placement in the Operating Theatre’ blog. If you haven’t, you might want to check them out to gain some useful insight into what this amazing course has to offer. I have just completed my first term of third-year as a student nurse on the Adult Nursing course. Being a third-year student, I think I am finally eligible to say that I have completed a fair number of placements in my day. Hence, I finally feel qualified to bring you my ‘Placement Survival Guide’.
While university itself can be a daunting experience, many may already be worrying about what comes after as they leave education and enter unknown territory…the workplace! Fears about getting a job are no different or arguably even more so when it comes to the creative industries. Particularly among those from lower socioeconomic and minority backgrounds, … Continue reading Business of the Creative Industries – Industry links
Hi, I’m Vinnie, I study Social and Political Sciences, and I did a Year in Industry. I would love to tell you about my work placement, and whether you should consider doing a Year in Industry. A Careers and Placements ‘Year in Industry’ is available to everyone. In my blog, I discuss motives for doing a Year in Industry, my experiences, what I think you can learn, my assessment of the experience overall and what I gained. I present a personal perspective which intends to leave you considering whether you should do a Year in Industry. But further, its about taking control of your university journey and learning more about who you are, and who you would like to become… whilst being paid. Enjoy.
Hi! My name is Hari and I’m a final year Computer Science student. The university has felt like a inclusive community from the day I’ve joined and I enjoy meeting incredible people and taking part in a range of different events which are hosted here. My course has been challenging but it’s also extremely rewarding in terms of the skills you develop. In my blog I’m going to talk about my experience doing a year in industry, including some exciting projects I’ve had the opportunity to do and the things I’ve learnt from a corporate working environment.
I’m Taylor and I am a final year English Language and Linguistics (with placement year) student and I want to share some of the opportunities that are offered as part of your programme of study at the University of York, and in the Department of Language and Linguistic Science. Higher education is not only about discovering more about the subject you love, it is also a great opportunity to immerse yourself in everything that the city and the University has to offer and one of those things is the Placement Year Programme. In my blog, I will be talking about my placement year experience, some of my placement highlights and how this experience has impacted my studies. I hope you are looking forward to coming to York and starting your course. You have so much to look forward to- just remember to grab every opportunity that comes by you!
I have now completed my 12-month placement experience as part of the uplands research team at the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust. Getting the news A few months ago, I was told that my next placement would be in Theatre. I had very mixed feelings about this news. I wanted … Continue reading What I wish I knew before starting my placement in the Operating Theatre
It is hard to believe it has been over three months since I started my year in industry placement with the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust’s Upland Research team. Decisions, Decisions I knew I wanted to do a year in industry even before I had chosen to study at York. Hearing about the opportunity at various open days, I knew it would be good for me and would boost my rather low confidence before leaving university. I became even more certain of this partway … Continue reading My Year in Industry: First Steps – Getting a placement
Trying to get a placement was a tricky part of my second year at university. Thankfully, that’s not true for everyone. Whilst some found it difficult to secure a placement, others were offered the first they applied for. Even now, I find it difficult to pinpoint exactly why I found it so challenging. Perhaps I … Continue reading Taking a placement year – best bits and top tips!
