February may be the shortest month but we still packed a lot in:
Consent Management Platform (aka “cookie banner”) implementation
As teased last time, the new cookie banner went live smoothly at the start of the month. We’ve been keeping an eye on acceptance rates and had a few smaller jobs to do such as adding it to the campus map.
Blogs platform theme update
Work has moved into the testing and refinement phase for the new on-brand theme for blogs.york.ac.uk:
- Accessibility testing and fixes, which we’ll use to inform an accessibility statement for the platform that we’ll write in March.
- Design tweaks and stakeholder meetings: including productive sessions about making other improvements to the Student Voices blog alongside applying the new design, and internal discussions about documentation, comms and governance.
- YouTube playlist embedding: Added new functionality to allow playlists to be embedded directly on blogs.
HR web rebuild
We’ve been making further progress on migrating HR content into the CMS, focusing on some of the more complex elements:
- Identifying solutions for specialised functionality such as the annual leave calculator.
- Importer refinements including pulling in meta descriptions where they exist.
Staff listings and staff profiles
We’ve been exploring a couple of different aspects to how we present our people data across the site:
- Transitioning staff listings from the “classic” style to the Digital Pattern Library (DPL) to ensure a consistent look and feel across the departmental rebuilds – we’re looking into how we can automate this process.
- Improved management of multi-departmental staff in the web CMS for work that is starting on the rebuilds of web presences for interdisciplinary centres.
Fixes and other improvements
- Campus map help and feedback button update: revised the button wording and the subsequent text to make it clearer that it can be used for reporting corrections to locations.
- IT Services guides, troubleshooting and FAQs branding update: we helped IT to update the site to match our updated website branding.
- Social media icon refresh: updated the footer icons to remove X and add TikTok.

Other things
- We’ve been working with the Research Communication team to plan changes to encourage signups to the new research newsletter through content tweaks and some additions to relevant CMS content types.
- Drafting job descriptions for several upcoming recruitment rounds within the team.
- Helping to plan our Digital and Creative Services away morning for this quarter.
