Updates and case studies from our team in Communications

Content Design team round up: June and July 2026

Here’s what we’ve been up to over the past couple of sunny summer months.

HR-related projects

We’ve had a few projects related to HR in the works:

  • PDR pages: supported HR with refreshing web content in line with their new performance and development framework. Added video guidance and consolidated multi-page guides.
  • Staff learning collection: helped launch a new set of web-based resources for personal development and navigating change.
  • Quality assurance and content governance model: following the web migration project in April, moving the HR pages from a legacy system and into the Web CMS, we’ve now handed over business-as-usual (BAU) maintenance of the new site to HR colleagues.
  • Workday Help (knowledge base) options: helping figure out the options for what content to host within Workday Help alongside existing content in the main University website.
  • New jobs landing page: undertaking discovery and content planning for a new ‘Jobs at York’ landing page to showcase our employer proposition to prospective staff.
  • Pay grades: redesigned the content and layout, making the information clearer and more accessible for everyone.

Department and interdisciplinary centre web rebuilds

It’s been a busy couple of months for getting more rebuild projects over the line; working with the Faculty Spokes team and Research Comms.

  • The Health Sciences and Psychology web rebuilds went live in June – that’s all the Sciences departments now complete!
  • For interdisciplinary centres, we’ve finalised the sign-off and going-live prep stages for Medieval Studies and Eighteenth Century Studies. They’re all set for going live next week.

Student landing page and support pages

We continue to make progress on the project to rebuild complex student support web content. We’re gathering student insights via a card sort survey, which was published a few weeks ago. We’re recruiting students for some baseline user testing.

As well as rebuilding the support page we’re planning to overhaul and rebuild the main landing page for current students. We’ve been preparing for a content planning workshop later this week to help shape a content strategy.

Quick updates

  • Careers page for prospective students: minor copy and layout tweaks drafted for approval following the Analytics review in May.
  • e:vision naming: for consistency we audited and updated the name across ~285 places, as well as universal headers and nav menus.
  • Audience and user stories repository: drafted a repository of user stories and a list of our wide and varied audience segments.
  • Architecture student showcase: drafted a student showcase mockup for the School, showing off the amazing work by their first cohort of students.
