As part of the NPIF Acellerating Business Collaboration project, the University of Leeds are delivering Connecting with Industry training, open to ECRs and doctoral students at York.
The Connecting with Industry programme gives researchers a working knowledge of critical business issues that impact commercial organisations. It will provide a set of tools and skills to help you immediately be more effective working in, and with, industry.
Learn about career routes in industry to access the jobs you want; and gain know-how that lets you engage with industry with more confidence by using the “language of business”.
The master class series will run over 6 weeks and will be delivered by Skillfluence. The modules include:
7th July 14:00 – 16:00 – Why Connect with Industry – Gain a better understanding of the importance of connecting with industry in the context of your personal and professional goals.
14th July 14:00 – 16:00 Understanding Industry – Enhance your knowledge of an industry of your choice, while learning a process for understanding the key dynamics of any industry.
21st July 14:00 – 16:00 Understanding Business – Learn how to understand the motivations of any business, helping you to effectively engage with businesses as an employee or an external resource.
28th July 14:00 – 16:00 Careers in Industry – Investigate possible career paths and learn how to position yourself to potential employers in a way that maximises your value.
4th August 14:00 – 16:00 Communicating with Industry – Explore strategies for communicating your research at multiple levels and sharing complex ideas in a way that is relevant and business focused.
11th August 14:00 – 16:00 Networking with Industry – Grow your network, build relationships and connect with key influencers to broaden your options and create opportunities.
Participants will need to confirm they are able to attend all 6 sessions, the format of each module includes:
- Self-study lessons on our eLearning platform
- 6 x weekly 75 minute participative webinars with breakout groups
- 6 x weekly 45 minute conversations with industry and business professionals after each webinar to gain insider insights and expertise
- Individual application activities with marked assignments and feedback
- Completion Certificate
