I hope the Easter break has been enjoyable for us all? It went by so quickly, as has our second year at university. It’s been great fun so far but the time has come to put our heads down for the final stretch. With assessments fast approaching, it’s clear to say that all of our newly learnt skills will be put to the ultimate test.
Hearing friends complain about their assessments and exam stress, I’m reminded of how fortunate I am to be a part of the Interactive Media department. Our projects give us such flexibility to personalise our assignments and incorporate our skills and personal interests. So far we have made games, mobile applications and websites. I truly look forward to seeing what each of us will have to show for towards the deadlines.
This also applies non-academically, for example, I have been working as a front-end developer for a month now for a small start-up in York. I never thought that I would be in a position like this so early on, but we are learning quickly and I am constantly impressed how far we have all come.
Each one of us can expect a prosperous future within our chosen field. Many students have applied for internships for the summer. I hear that some of us have been short-listed for the interview stage and a handful have an internship secured. I wish them and all others who hope to secure an internship, the best of luck!
All in all, the class-based structure of the degree has made both the teaching and learning personal. I have become attached to each student on my course; something which may not have happened had I been a part of a different BSc. I await our final year with much anticipation and look forward to hearing what each of us has planned for the summer.
