Interactive Media student Ella tells us about her work placement as a Creative Campaigns and Production Intern at The Walt Disney Company.
Why did you decide to do a placement?
I really wanted to get outside the university bubble and experience the creative industry for myself. Also, as Interactive Media is a hugely varied course I wanted to figure out which career paths I might enjoy before I actually graduate.
How did you find the opportunity?
The Disney placements are very heavily advertised and were pointed out to us by the university. I just went through the usual application and interview process.
Tell us about your role.
I’ve had two different roles since joining Disney. The first was a more traditional internship role supporting Disney’s creative team on projects such as the 2020 Christmas campaign. My current role revolves around planning and creating content for the social media channels across Europe.
How has it influenced your future career options?
I feel much more confident that I’m pursuing a career I enjoy in practice as well as as an academic subject. This placement has also helped me set long term career goals for myself along with a clear idea of how to reach them.
I also know more about how I like to operate in a professional environment. And the type of place I want to work in the future.
