Continuation fees during the COVID-19 pandemic

You asked for ‘No fee extensions’, this is what we have done.

The only fee we at York would ever charge for an extension is the ‘Continuation Fee’.

The continuation fee is charged for each new 12 month period entered after a student completes the normal period of enrolment. The current fee is £330 and it covers access to computing and library borrowing facilities. Students are entitled to a reimbursement of the full fee if they submit within three months of entering their continuation period.

Through the Open Letter to the Vice-Chancellor and Dean of York Graduate Research School, and through the GSA, students have been asking for the University to waive the continuation fee in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We have listened to the concerns of students and can announce that no continuation fees have been charged since 1 January 2020 and we guarantee none will be charged between 1 January 2020 and 31 October 2020. Emails confirming extensions have been changed to remove any reference to continuation fees.
