Before you can teach as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA), you will need to complete the one-day Introduction to Teaching and Learning course.
The course allows you to acquire the knowledge and skills to establish yourself as a confident, enthusiastic and effective teacher.
There are four different workshops and you should choose the one most relevant to your teaching responsibilities (your department can guide you):
- Facilitating seminars and discussion-based learning
- Facilitating practical and laboratory demonstrations
- Facilitating problem-solving and problem-based learning
- Supervising dissertations and projects
Each workshop consists of a self-study component (4.5 hours) and a webinar (1.5 hours). Bookings for each workshop close two weeks prior to the event to ensure you have time to complete the self-study component before the webinar.
