Researchers in Schools

Are you interested in teaching in secondary schools ? Do you want to have an impact on pupil attainment and access to university ? These two programmes might be of interest to you:

1.Researchers in Schools is a unique teacher training and development programme exclusively for those who have completed a doctorate with three core objectives: increasing and disseminating subject expertise; promoting education research; championing university access.

The programme is designed to run over three years, with participants achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in their first year and completing their Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) year in year two. Participants are placed in non-selective, secondary schools, supported to become excellent new teachers and research leaders, and have access to research associate status at a selective university.

During the three years of the programme you will have protected time to complete a Research Leader in Education Award and you will also receive regular one-to-one coaching and support. You will also deliver Uni Pathways, a tutorial course designed by you and based on your PhD, and pilot an education research project.

2. Researcher Development Programme offers PhD and Early Career Researchers a paid tutoring opportunity. Working as a Scholars Programme tutor enables researchers to communicate their research to a non-specialist audience, gain valuable teaching and public engagement experience and deepen their knowledge of the UK education system.

Following training you will take up a paid, part-time placement supporting local pupils from under-represented backgrounds to access university and have the opportunity to disseminate your research to small groups of pupils.

Researchers in Schools will be running a workshop at our Careers Fair on Friday 16th October from 11.30-12.00. To attend you will first need to register for the Fair, you can then book into employer workshops.
