Celebrating our Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) results

We have received our 2023 Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) results.

Like many Russell Group institutions, we conduct the PRES every two years. PRES surveys all our postgraduate researchers (PGRs) and asks you to rank your experience both overall and in nine specific areas (supervision; resources; research culture; community; progression; responsibilities; support; research skills; professional development).

Our response rate of 44% was above average within the sector and I would like to thank all of you who completed the survey.

The PRES results indicate that York continues to provide an excellent experience for its postgraduate researchers. York’s ranking increased from 26 to 19 (out of 100 institutions) for overall experience.

York was in the top quarter of institutions – in comparison to the rest of the Russell Group – for supervision, resources, progression, responsibilities and support.

As always, the PRES also provides us with insight as to where we can – as an institution and departmentally – improve our performance. York Graduate Research School (YGRS) will be collaborating across the University to look in detail at those areas to ensure that York further enhances the experience of our PGRs.

Thank you again to all of you for being part of such an inspiring and supportive PGR community.
